Immobiliser problem??

Postby Muad_dib77 » Fri Jan 13, 2006 5:50 pm

Hi Guys & Gals..

Something has gone wrong..
When I try and start my baby all i get is "click click click click click" I'm guestimating that this sound is from the starter engine.. this is followed by my alarm sounding like a telephone..(Low volume cycle though all "ring tones"..)..

I'm guessing that it's something electrical - I'm thinking the immobiliser isn't "switiching off"..

I'm been 100% unsucsessful in locating the alarm box in my car..Just can't find it at all! Damn professional installation! ;-) Have checked all other fuses - all look to be in order..

Any ideas?

If the starter is just clicking and not engaging, it could be the battery thats at fault, that said, the starter may also be 'immobilised' in some way. Any alarm I've had installed disengages the fuel pump, the starter will kick in but the engine engage as such due to no fuel entering the cylinders. Do the lights work, what does the voltmeter read? The alarm box should be visible with the bonnet up, you should be looking for a 3" square black box or something similar, you should be able to disable the alarm with a key.

I've found the siren - which does have the key thing in it.. Even with the alarm off the result is the same..

In pure desparation I went to check the voltage..just now..1am..cause it didn't occour to me to have a gander at my voltmeter before taking my car apart... It reads just over 8v..Hardly enough to start the car.. I'm such a muppet..

Oh well - I suppose it's a project for tomorrow morning...find somebody with starter cables..cause I haven't got any anymore :-(

I wonder why the alarm cycles when I try to start the car...

Not impressed with myself...

Is there something about NOT push starting cars with Cats?

Ok so here's something I don't understand..

I went and got myself a set of starter cables..

Checked the voltage of the girlfirends golfs battery .. it's 12v (like any other car battery I've seen)..hooked up the cables as described in a different thread here.. (red to red and black to chassis)..nothing..nothing at all..In fact I think I may have managed to drain my battery even further..

I got no sparks..nothing at all.. the cables didn't even get warm..

Hopefully I can trick IP to stop by tomorrow for some LED fitting - then I can attempt to suck some juice from his FTO..

I'm kinda think that something "funny" is going on though..battery is so flat now that I can't even activate the alarm..

You sure the negative cable was properly grounded on the FTO side? It could be the case that the batterys reached the end of its usable life and needs to be replaced. I've a battery charger that you're welcome to take a loan of if you want to try charging the battery.

Thanks for the offer CJ - all sorted now though.. To be honest I'm quite embarassed by the whole thing..I was simply out of power. IP came out and gave me some power.

I've never heard a car sound like that when not having enough power to start though..Obviously the click-e-di-click sound was from the starter-relay. Mad.. Anyways.. For some reason I couldn't charge my battery from the Girlfriends Golf - still haven't really figured out why...not too bothered tbh... As soon as IP hooked up + to + and - to - sparks went a flying and I could start up my car again... (Phew)..

On a different lighter note (ba-du-tchi) both IP and myself now have blue LEDs in our dashboards..YAY! I'll post some pictures of our mini-meet later.
