Speedo driving me to the edge of insanity

Postby Sir Charles » Wed Mar 25, 2009 12:55 pm

Ok i've tried doing a search but I cannot find anyone with the exact problem as me.

My speedo doesnt work and also the digital readout where the mileage should be is just a series of dashes. My rev counter and everything else in the instrument cluster is working ok.

Recently I removed a faulty kmh - mph converter from behind the clocks and reconnected the wire so that I had at least a reading on the speedo. That was fine for a couple of weeks then all of a sudden the speedo stopped working again and the mileage disappeared and was replaced with 3 or 4 dashes!?!

I bought one of those KBVT chips off fleabay and soldered that on the VSS but this still has not cured my problem.

I need help, I'm far from an electritian and even further from an auto-electritian.....I just have a real basic DIY knowledge.

I was hoping someone else had the same problem as me. I've looked at the wiring behind the clocks and it looks ok.

Did you take that KBVT chip off again? I have a healthy distrust of car electronic bits from ebay.

If it worked fine for a few weeks, maybe it just came loose again? Did you redo the connection?

No the speedo stopped working even before I put the chip on. I thought the chip may have cured the problem but it did not.
