Suspension Replacements

Postby sinlessgunner » Thu Mar 13, 2008 4:14 pm

Hi Guys,

As stated previously I have the FTO booked in for a suspension make over on the 24th. Was talking to the mechanic yesterday and he wanted to know exactly what I wanted done and what parts I want. I was on the phone not in person so he couldn't see. The thing is I'm not 100% sure what exactly I have to do/get. I'm fairly sure the bushes need replacing along with the anti-roll bars and droplinks. Is there any other things I should have checked/replaced?

Also, wouldn't mind getting it lowered at the same time. Is there specific suspension parts for an FTO or is there standard fittings for a number of cars? I don't want to break the bank on this lads I just want to get the suspension to a medium-high standard and lowered. I don't really want any expensive parts just basics. And how much do you think I will be looking at for the whole lot? Parts and labour? The guy is pretty sound and does a bit of work for my Dad so he won't rip me off but I'd like to get the best price possible.

I don't know if I should do the whole lot, or just the worn/damaged parts? I wouldn't know where to begin in guessing a price so can't decide what to do until I know the cost situation.

Any takers!!

Check out the parts section on www.camskill.co.uk that should give you a few ideas.. :-)

there's all the bushes and lowering springs..

also worth checkign out is www.RiceRocketUk.co.uk -

you could even call them and ask exactly what parts you need..

Best bet is to search the forum - there have been tons of threads on suspension refits.

recently changed my suspension so i have some new bushes left in FOR SALE section if you're intrested .

huge difference , feels like a new car after the process.

how low do you wanna go?
APEX are good(cheap enough) springs great in handling , but if you wanna go for a much lower look you should try something else.

Ah I don't want to go too low. Just drop it slightly. Cj's cost him 650 and mine I think needs more work :(

I thought it would be in the region of 400-500 max!! It just squeaks a lot and knocks a little bit which I don't mind really but even a slight pot hole feels like a crater and bumpy roads shake the guts out of the car!

The whole lot may not need replacing, I've gone from upgrading the suspension to going for a minimalist job in 3 posts haha!

To tighten everything back to first day.

Change/check the following. Like CJ i replaced all suspension bushes and it made the car handle like new. Gets rid of all those annoying suspen. knocks and creaks.

Front
Anti Roll Links and bushes.
Wishbone Bush uprated (http://www.fto-ireland.com/forum/phpBB2 ... ght=bushes)

Rear
Anti Roll Links and bushes.
Trailing arm bushes
Check condition of joints on link arms (Short and long arms)
Deffo change the bushes on the lower track arm.

Also check the condition of the 4 top mounts on the shocks. These can also cause rattling over bumps.

I should have most of what you need in stock. Give me a call.
