Damm Steering Rack Leaking

Got to replace the rack - its a GR Auto - has anyone done one of these - do you have to drop the subframe - what do you reackon for timing - how many hours should it take?

I don't think you have to drop the subframe. I think it's just held on with a few brackets.

As per colm, no. Long enough job to do though unless you have tiny arms :)

Have you established where the leak is coming from on the rack? Why replace the whole thing (expensive) if you need only replace one part of it?

Steering racks are notoriously annoying on any car really. Can be more of a pain in the ar$e to replace a part if you have to find it first. Are you sure it's leaking from the rack or is it leaking from the pump?

defo from the rack - n/s gator has burst due to seal gone - anyone ever done one on fto here?

No, but I'm currently trying to do the front ARBs and I can see the rack. It looks like it would be awkward but not impossible.

have u resolved this issue i will upload a pic of my rack tomoz so u got a idear as there is no lump at moment and u will be able to see better but i think the job is easy if u take subframe of it dont take long had mine of in 2 min

check the models , afaik there are several different types
no1. manual GR 96 l no2. tip GR 95 l no3. manual Gpx 95 l no.4 manual Gpx 95 l no.5 manual Gpx 96 l no.6 tip GR 95 - in 2011 took a break from the FTO scene
