Injectors

Postby Dave » Mon Mar 14, 2005 1:00 pm

had an issue with my new injectors, fitted these about three weeks ago as part of the turbo install and drove home thursday night only to get a bad smell of petrol in cabin, lifted the bonnet and got sprayed with petrol!

took the fuel rail apart and noticed one of the rubber O ring seals was frayed and obviously broke the seal.
As for getting a replacement, it's the usual with Mitsi, nothing is standard, both my local motor factors nor my mechanic had a suitable one to fit, so it's a case of either trying to get one from mitsi or bodging the old injectors seal off!
pain in the ass cos each injector cost something like $80 a piece!

Sounds like you have your hands full with the turbo install.
Theres a lot to be said for a Manual GPX all the same - isn't there?

Not much support - am I?
I often think about a Turbo under the FTO bonnet - I'd love an EVO engine under there - but its a lot of work and money.
Hope you get it sorted soon - but I'd say it would be easier to transplant a 1.8GSR turbo engine in there than get the GS turbo set-up correctly.

well we did expect teething problems. And so did RPW. because this is the first FTO install and we all know the FTO isn't completely the same as other engine set ups.
I checked into doing an engine transplant before, and i was advised against it by IVI engines, basically they said one, it'd be impossible to find a good engine at decent money and two it would probably never be fully right!
hence the turbo seemed like the easiest option!

but it does say a lot for the gpx, which i was driving all weekend, in second gear!!

but at least when she is done it will be the only one (that i know of) and it'll still have the potential for some serious power! (granted having to spend sh1t loads more on her)

hopefully she'll be done for the karting meet.

nope, just the injectors! still no hairdryer.

time frame is getting a little bit out of hand cos both myself and Karl still have other commitments plus it more or less has to be done on a weekend. so it won't be done before the karting, unfortunately..... probably the 16th. but i should hopefully have the electrics wired up and what not. then it'll be a case of fitting everything and getting the intercooler pipes welded up and away we go! (well that's the plan)
