Just remembered I had these sitting about in my inbox still..

So there she is.. the color is a bit off in these shots - but I'll try and get a couple of better ones tomorrow..

the Wheels are BBS - and they're in top nick, so they're definately going on the market - and I'll stick the enkeis on her instead.

She's a manual, she's completely unmodified it seems, except for what appears to be a massive stainless steel catback exhaust. It was a bit wet and dark when I stuck my head under to have a looksie so I could be wrong..next time I get a chance I'll have a closer look.

She passed her MOT on 17th of January this year.

Only thing I've done to her this far is to fix the window washers - there was some gunk in the little spring valves, nothing hot water & cillit bang didn't clear out in the kitchen sink.

She's not faultless though, the AYC pump needs a wee bit of attention; However as the warning light only comes on intermittently I believe it to be a relatively minor issue. In any case the AYC isn't a high priority item to me.

It's still a bit of time away though before that will actually happen...but at least now I've committed by getting most of the parts I need.

the engine I have here is the 260bhp version - so I need to find out exactly what I need to get the most out of it prior to the operation.

I haven't done much research yet but it would appear that really what's needed is a different ECU.

I doubt it ... of course I hope she will be - and I'll do my best to procure the funding needed.

But there's a BIG thing in my life that I need to save for as well..so keeping that in mind..

I'll start by getting the uprated parts I know I'll need..

SuperDuper Clutch
Extra Fluffy dice
Led Washers
Type R stickers

then see where time & money leaves me..

The estate VR4 (legnum) is quite a big looking bus. Quite fancy that engine - it really has the potential to make a lightweight coupe like an FTO go like stink - but how does it drive in a heavier 4WD estate?

It's surprisingly peppy.. very quick - I now enjoy overtaking again..

Foot down = eat my dust..

It's quite economical also when driven sedately.. it's actually matching the milage I got in the lexus, and I'm willing to bet I can improve on it too!

When you put the foot to the floor though economy goes out the window.. teheheh..

I like it - a lot... but it's a bit on the heavy side..

Good luck with the transplant, I await the outcome with baited breath.

Legnums are surprisingly quick for their size and will give most other cars a run for their money. It doesn't handle as well as the Galant for obvious reasons but you could sort that out with rear bracing and suspension mods.

I met a Legnum owner recently who was using the car as his commercial works vehicle - rear stripped out, rear windows blocked up, great idea in terms of keeping the road tax costs down.

I met up with FTOREX 2 weeks ago and had a look at his build. Will have the VR4 wiring from him any day now and can send you a copy MAUD.

I know it's a Wagon..but it's easy to forget when you're driving it...very easy.

and even at that I got 10km to the liter!

The red AYC warning light came on at the end of my 1st test drive in the car..

Seller was ademant that he hadn't seen it before..

I checked around ( CJ and the VR4Forum ) - and there's a pump, ecu and clutch type setup that make up the ayc system.

When that light comes on - and stays on it (from what I gather) boils down to the following..

1. AYC pump is dead, which is expensive
2. Fluid needs replacing or replentying
3. Wee Switch needs to be installed on the pump and adjusted as the pump is slightly worn..
4. Overheating
5. AYC is knackered & needs rebuilding

any of the above can cost between 20e and 500e apparently.. so naturally I was aprehensive at this point assuming the worst..

Anyways on my 2nd drive of the car - which was longer and more spirited than the 1st the light stayed off..

so maybe the seller wasn't trying to pull I fast one..and after all there was no nasty sounds from the car.. there's a slight banging of the exhaust, but that's it.. no bad diff sounds or whirring noises.

but - as I pull onto the ferry the light was on..

grrr, not impressed..

drive the car off the ferry, light remains on throughout my dublin cc rush-hour session, but as I hit the m1 it turns off.

Curious..

Start the car the following morning ayc light is off..

on the 1st bend little red light comes on, and stays on till I reach work.

now at this point I read on the forum that something as little as an air imbalance in the rear wheels can cause the AYC light to come on..

So HERE'S what I did..

I went to the petrol station and checked the air pressure in the tires.

Turned off the ignition..

Went and got wispa bar.. (yum!)

Started the car - AYC light is off - went around the roundabout a few times - at a safe speed of course - Light stayed off, little green lights came on instead..

Yesterday I got all three lit up... it's fun fun fun!

So there you have it..

there was nothing wrong except for a pit of wind..or lack thereof rather..

Oh and apparently - if you have whirrly, crashybangy type sounds while you're driving you're likely to need a replacement of the whole thing.. Diff, Pump the lot... But then if you're doing a conversion it doesn't matter cause unless you're doing an awd conversion as well you wont need the ayc bits.

New one on me, an air imbalance in the wheels is known to trigger the AYC intensity (green bars) lights on the straight but not the AYC warning light. Hopefully thats your problem sorted. In the interim, check the colour and level of the AYC fluid (ATF) in the resevoir on the RHS of the boot.

The green lights don't go on unless I push it a bit like - but I'm assuming that's normal.

As far as I know it's the same as LSD but electronic instead of mechanical.

Active Yaw Control uses an active differential to transfer torque to the wheels that have the best grip on the road. As per Bernard, its electronically controlled and works on all 4 wheels.

I prefer the BBS, they're an underrated wheel and look well on the Leggie. Would like to see them on an FTO...
