Do it now. Peace of mind, if nothing else.. :D

yup, belts generally need to be done after 5 years, so you should really do it now if you don't know the history of the car.

Take the guys advice - a timing belt change is the first thing I'd do on an FTO unless I was absolutely certain of the exact mileage it last had a timing belt change.

I seem to remember a figure of 100,000k as a limit, but if you're in any doubt get it done. It's a bit expensive repairing an engine the belt goes on!

The age of the belt will also be a factor - when I got my second FTO it was 8 years old but had almost 100K kms on it and the timing belt was literally torn to shreds (chunks gone from the belt). It was a miracle it had survived the test drive - and if you are going to the trouble of checking out the belt condition then you are as well off to change at the same time (+ water pump IMHO).

You need to take off all the belts if you're doing the timing belt, so you might as well put all new belts back on. As myfeckin says, the waterpump should be done at the same time, it's no extra work to do, and if you want to replace it you need to do all the same work as doing the timing belt anyway.
