I have returned with a Mivec

Postby fatboyfat7 » Thu Jul 10, 2008 12:43 am

Well, months have gone by with me trawling through the site not actually owning an FTO but all that changed today! Bought the white one I posted about during the week. It does need slight work (small dent drivers side and HOLES where original spoiler came off) but otherwise mechnically fine! Just want to say thanks to Colm and Rory again who carefully protected me from myself! Happy out with it anyway and looking forward to the Mivec experience.

Cool - How does it feel to drive in comparison to the GS?

Its no comparison. The kick is fantastic. Got a bit of fright on the way down when I opened it a bit. Only really drove it in Auto so far, want to get used to it first. Might stand a chance of keeping up with the convoy next time! And tbh the fuel consumption seems to be, if anything, better?? I dunno, i know i've only had it a day but I drove down from Naas and it only used about €25...? The GS would have been that if not more!

Thought Id get away without telling this story but i suppose its gotta come out now... sigh. I ATTEMPTED bringing a Mivec in from the UK. Went over paid for it, drove it back onto the ferry, happy as larry. Drove it off the ferry and totaled about 4 miles until the engine exploded in ROSSLARE. Thats how far I got...
So, by complete chance, my grandparents were in England for a few days and were on the same ferry back. (only bit of luck in this story) Got a spin home etc..
Got onto Rory and sorted another engine and rented a trailer and with a buddy drove to Rosslare. Got the car back to Rory (about 10 hours after leaving my house that morning) and was thinking it might not be so bad.
The car had much more wrong wit it than that though and just wasnt worth fixing so it got scrapped. Hence, the story of my last FTO.
Now, let the mocking and smart comments begin, its no more than I deserve.

Ok you're lucky,
I was expecting something untold about the car and was ready to get to your home to have it exchanged with your new one and maybe breaking your knee caps and elbows on the way

For the English car I'd just say bad luck, hope you didn't losed too much money :(

No pics uploaded yet but it can still be seen on Carzone I think? Its not working right either already. posted on the technical forum all about it. I destined not to own one.
And Masa, for someone who I once described as a suit and tie fella you've really got a dangerous streak haven't you?!! Sorry to hear about the water pump but obviously theres no way I could have known that...

Holy crap, that is some bad luck! Yes, I'm sure it'd be easy to mock (and that might come with time :P ), but for the moment I just feel terrible hearing that story. I've heard horror stories about people bring cars back, but its a bit more real when you hear from someone you know getting burnt.
I see you're gearbox is giving a bit of trouble, but I'm hoping after that you get a break, you deserve it for persistance if nothing else!

I suppose the only good thing about the English import story is that you didn't have the VRT paid before it gave up the ghost.

Its very important that if you are buying a car privately in the UK that you get it HPI checked and also mechanically checked by AA etc.

At least you have some comeback if its from a dealer - but its a very tricky business buying privately.

dan, if you can't do the difference between a joke and a real sentence don't reply. Smileys aren't there just "cause its pretty".

Did I told anything to Chris when the pump broke ? No cause there is no way he could have known it.
Neither a mech wouldn't have notice it.

So, MYOB.

Chris: I know ;) And sorry for the other problems with the new one :?
( and I still wear a suit and tie everyday except o nfridays :p )

I know, the UK car was utter stupidity and tbh I wasnt that much out of of pocket. Worked out about 2000 down or something so it could have been worse. Nobody to blame but myself.

UK one looks good and shiny on the exterior until you jack it up and have a look underneath. Interior was one of the cleanest I have seen.

PLates welded in everywhere to cover corrosion, Chassis legs and brake hoses rusted to S**t. Bad rear impact not even bothered to do a half ar$e job on it. Boot floor crumpled very badly. THe guy that sold this to Chris was right dodgy by the sounds of it.

Have seen worse though. Had one in recently for a service and one of the heads was being held in place with a piece of 2x1 (no its not a joke). Ftont panel crumpled to crap. Sad part is a supposed reliable mechanic told the owner the vehicle was perfect. Lets just say I know for a fact it had been in at least 2 previous smashes.

Well wear with the new one by the way.
