Hi,

driving out from work this evening, and heard a noise on the left hand side, got out for a look and discovered this on a flat back left wheel! :shock:

I've already replaced the front 2 Federals 'cos they got out of shape and I had a lot of vibration in the wheel - thought it was wheel balancing first but when the tyre place took a look they found the tyre was actually gone out of shape. They showed it to me... never heard of a tyre doing that before.

Now today I discover this crack in the tyre wall. Well, they were cheap for a reason!! :roll:

I haven't had a problem with the back right tyre yet but I don't think I'm going to give it the opportunity, 2 Goodyears for me!

Toyo proxes are the way to go kev i haven't used any other make of tyre in 9 years never had any issues with the grip awesome in dry and great in wet and they look awesome too plus they have brought out a new model in the last year (PXT1R) I have these on mine they are awesome.

Thanks for the tip of the Toyos, the info I had was the grip was great but they didn't last as long as the other tyres though. How are you finding them for wear?

Toyos are a SAVAGE tyre. Although they can be quite expensive over here. They are super for grip because the compound is so soft. They do thend to wear quicker than harder compund tyres. ESPECIALLY if you drive anyway hard, cornering acceleration etc. how many KMs you getting out of them Daz?

I've had super steels in the past - and although they weren't superduper the never actually split open.

Proxes are brilliant - I was really happy with mine but once they wear out there is no traction at all..but when they're good they're REALLY good.

Goodyear Eagle F1s are in a similar price bracket as the T1-R's and they're an excellent tyre to boot...

I have 2 Goodyears on the front at the mo, might go with them for now, have the same tyres all round mightn't be a bad idea. Plus being a longer lasting tyre has its attractions! :wink:

Btw, in my enquires with tyre suppliers I got a tip from one of the wholesalers... I'm on passing this on with no proof or anything, its just what I've heard, you can make your own mind up, but it does sound well worth watching out for!

Make sure you buy your Goodyears from a reputable source. Apparently there are tyres coming in from India with Goodyear on them which are absolute rubbish. Asked him if you could tell by looking at them and he said no, they look the same.

I found them excellent for wear, For example i got about 48 klm on the last set i had (PXT1S) on my 18's (worst thing is i'd just put on a full new set(PXT1R) about a month before i cracked an alloy) i'm now moved down to 17's only a couple of months ago and they are wearing just as well. I will admit thou when i was doing savage milage when travelling up and down to Dublin every day from Carlow i averaged about 37-40 klms. Wear depends on lots of factors like road surface, if your tracking is correct tyre pressures and how hard you drive them, it's like anything you look after them they will last.
