Seen these on ebay http://cgi.ebay.ie/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=8034742604&ru=http%3A%2F%2Fsearch.ebay.ie%3A80%2Fsearch%2Fsearch.dll%3FMfcISAPICommand%3DGetResult%26ht%3D1%26shortcut%3D0%26from%3DR41%26query%3D8034742604%26category0%3D%26Submit%3DSearch%26fvi%3D1. Just wondering has anyone ever used one or heard anything about them, good or bad? They're dirt cheap so I ordered one this morning, but now I'm thinking I should check it out before I install it.

Colin, they're a waste of money, I'd be inclined to throw it in the bin!

Sounds like they're bad news. Think I'll give it a miss.

I asked the seller the following questions:

"If this advances the timing are you not risking pinking (pre-detonation)?? Isn't that really bad for the engine?? Any rolling road figures to back up the bhp claims??"

and here's the reply

"HI
WHAT THE CHIP DOES IS KIDS THE ECU INTO THINKING ITS ABOUT -50 OUTSIDE AND ALTERS THE ENGINE TO COMPENSATE.
THIS INCREASES THE FUEL FLOW AND GIVES YOU MORE BHP."

so basically he didn't answer my questions although going on his description above you could draw some conclusions,

1. there's no way you could possibly get a 20bhp increase from this chip

2. if it does do anything it's most likely gonna cause damage via pinking...

I tried a Dastek Unichip once after I was told not to bother, ya ya - learn the hard way.. According to the installer I gained about 20BHP at the wheels from it.

But when I went to check out another dyno, the car read the same as before the chip - if not less. Needless to say I had it removed and got back every sent I spent at this "specialist".

By the way, I got my gearbox fixed and the car is now running like never before, finally I have some real competition on the roads.

Theres a big difference between a Dastek and what this gobshite is selling on ebay. The dastek would actually be usefull if you had a lot of mods on your car - no good if its standard though.

The "chip" on ebay is just a basic resistor - 20cent in most electronic stores.

Well my "Chip" arrived the other day. All it is, is a standard resistor selotaped to an A4 page, which will be going straight in the bin. I tell you they're probably making a fortune from suckers like me  who say "ah sure what's 2 or 3 quid" when it's costing them less then 1cent each.
