Engine Oil for tappet sufferers :)

Postby soc » Fri Mar 05, 2004 12:28 pm

Heya Guys,

Changed my engine 2 weeks ago - couldn't find amy Mobil 1 so ended up getting some 0w50 fully synthetic oil from a maker called Bardhal. It was Bardhal XTC 0w50. I also added some Forte Top End Treatment and WOW  . Before I had the common tappets problem of FTO's and every morning (after first time start) it would take about 3-5 minutes for the tappets to quieten down. This happened even after the last oil change (where I had a complete engine flush and used Mobil 1).

But now there is almost no tappets - at worst I get about 15 seconds of tappet noise and then sweet as a nut........ dunno if it's the forte top end treatment, the engine oil or a combination of both but I can tell you the combination works wonders........

....just thought I'd share this with all my fellow tappet sufferers (is that a word :))

Cheers
Shane

Let us know if it noise returns, (which is quite common). I'll be trying the top end treatment soon myself, did you get it from Camskill by the way?

Yea got it from camskill. I really do think it's a good combination - after the last oil change the noise was there every morning but went away after about 5 mins when oil has heated and circulated. Also the car is smoother/quieter now at idle - I'll let you know if it changes with time. I think if you change the oil every 5-6K miles then it shouldn't get any worse really,
