PAINT help...

Postby saoirse32 » Sat Mar 25, 2006 2:24 pm

hey just have a problem as u can see i have a non metallic red fto, and ive started to notice over the past month the paint on the plastic parts( spoiler and wing mirrors) starting to fade a little around the edges, turning into a pinkish coulour, this is very annoying. i was thinking of getting them resprayed, but they might look a different colour to the rest of the car then, making the problem worse...
anyone have any suggestions on how i can prevent it...?
i wash it every 2 weeks. and waxed it twice in the last 4 months...
culd this be the problem?
cheers lads.

Nope, i had a passion red one myself, thats just basecoat red, no lacquer ! buy a bottle of auto glym paint restorer and do the whole car, you wont beleive the colour ! it always fades quicker on the spoiler especially but restores back no problem, make sure you wax well after using it though because all the protection will be gone, btw. to be sure your car isn't lacqured, rub a small area with colour restorer and the cloth should have red on it ! if it doesnt then its lacquer , so dont use abrasive polishes on it

Hi,
Mine is exactly the same. From conversations I've had they all do this eventually. I think its sunlight U.V. that does it, and waxing doesn't help apparently.
If you look around you will see all bright red cars tend to fade as they age. I think they call it 'bloom' when it goes milky looking like this.
My advice would be to avoid parking in direct sunlight whenever you can.
There is a fair chance re-spraying will look different because the rest of the car has no doubt faded too over the years, just not as much.
I've revived mine with CarPlan T-cut colour and Autoglym Super resin polish, which is a clear coat protection liquid.
Time will tell whether this was the right thing to do or not:D

A friend of mine had a '94 red Corrola which had faded to the point where the paint looked almost milky. He used T-cut (same as MAC1) & it brought it back to shiny red. Looked like it had a respray.

Not saying anything else isn't just as good but I used the CarPlan T-CUT Color it's coloured wax in a coloured plastic bottle, there are about eight in the range but obviously you need the bright red same as me. Hellfrauds do it for about £9.
You can do 4 or 5 whole cars for one bottle.

If you pm me your personal email address I can send you some before and after photos, unbelievable difference!

I cant work out how to stick a photo on here

Thanks CJ, I've now saved it for future reference. I tried in vain to copy and paste but it's obviously more complicated than that.
cheers :D
