I tried to do an online quote about 2 weeks ago for Britton and got an email back this morning;

"Hi,
Thanks for your submission on our website, unfortunately due to the high grouping of the vehicle we are unable to provide a quote for you. Should you require a quote for an alternate vehicle please log onto www.brittoninsurance.com and we will be happy to shop around to get a competitive quote for you."

Aren't they supposed to be sort of specialising in 'high group'ed vehicle? I know a lot of people here are insured through them. Is this just a standard crappy email they send but when you ring them they'll actually get you a quote?? Or are they going down the Quinn route and insuring some and not others?

Secondly, (here comes the vent!!) I asked for insurance on an FTO, why the hell would I want a quote on an alternative vehicle, I own an FTO and want to insure that not 'an alternative vehicle'!!! God they annoy me so bloody much!! Aaaaargh!!!!

was with them before i bought the first FTO and i had to cancel the policy as they wouldn't transfer on the new car (fto) . bunch of no-good

i was told by quinn that they are obliged to give you a quote if you already have a policy with them , so what i did on my two ftos was ,i got insurance on my misses car then two weeks later i transferred, i heard they cant refuse you a transfer either , so many different stories about quinn but gettin insured in another car then transfering was my best solution. worked twice for me without hassle. but wouldn insure me straight up

I was with Quinn before I came over here, but closed the policy early before it fully ran out, if I had to I'd go back to them just so I could get insurance I would, it was only about 700euro so wasn't overly expensive in comparision to other places. The fact I closed the previous policy does that mean that any quote I get from them is a new one and that they wont be obliged to insure me? I dread having to go under either the mother or either of my sisters, all 3 drive Yaris'es, (or Yarii). Would be grand if I can give my previous policy number and just reinstate my previous insurance as it were if thats possible.

you will have to start a new policy mate,exact same thing happened to me, i cancelled my old policy on my gr at the time and when i got the gpx i asked for a quote and they wouln give me one, so i had get a new policy on my misses car then transfer , the woman actually told me to do this, really nice over the phone....for a change i know the thoughts of driving something small is crap but its only two weeks then just get on the blower and ask for transfer and roberts your fathers brother...... back in the car you love

Shes going on her mothers policy, Type S Civic, which should be ok I think to give her a while to swap over, think it was Britton she was with, and it was costly for a girl, something over the grand mark anyway.
But I was hoping to get mine insured straight away, its been nearly 8 months without mi-vec now and as soon as I get home I just want to drive it!

i know the feeling , went through cold turkey without a fto ,reason for buying another one, just get insured on anything cheap . something along the line of a basic 1.4 or something and swap it over, its alot of hassle but will be worth it in the end

Quinn quote me directly from their website. They only quote if i selected FTO-MiVEC and one of the options that doesn't say import. My logic being that if they have an issue with it I'll just ask them what cars aren't imported into Ireland? But anyway, got my quote of €1001 and seperately €950.01 on two different days.

Ah didnt think of quoting off the website good idea, thats how I got the quote in the first place so maybe itll work again! Nice one.

Just tried the online quote from Quinn, 866Euro, 166 more than I was paying last year. However they do have an easy payment plan on a monthly basis which is a nice handy thing if we end up spending more than we allowed for while still here. Cant believe its increased by that much though! Should be coming down you'd have thought!

hi guys im from uk as u no im 21 been driving nearly 4 years only third party fire at mo 1 years no claims got 6 points pay £1300 the year if u can try adrian flux for things like ythis dont no if there know over ireland but worth a try they r one uk higest performance company and specilise in fto as one there cars just heads up hope it helps

Skype is your friend. Costs less than 2c per min orthereabouts.

Didn't think of that. Anytime I've used it for ringing back home though, with the video thing, it often cuts out and the sound goes and breaks up, wonder would it be different if calling to a phone as opposed to a pc though? Might be an option all right. Good thinking.

Video calls are a lot less clear than just phones. I set up a Skype phone system for a friend of mine in his business and they have no issues at all. You also get another phone number too, and you can pick where you want it to be based so people can call you for cheap. Say you have family in the states you can make it a US local number. Skype is a wonderful thing

yeah im 23, but they gave some stupid excuse about the year of the car (95), but 23 isn't too young is it???
anyway i have is insured as a tranfer from my old insurance with quinn until march, so i guess i just gotta ring around myself

Before I got an FTO I was insured with Eagle Star through Britton. When I bought the car I rang Britton to transfer my insurance they said they would have to check with Eagle Star first. Eagle Star declined the transfer of insurance. I don't blame Britton at all for this as they are only a broker. It was Eagle Star that cancelled the policy and didn't give me all the money I was due back from the policy, at first. I investigated it and asked for a printed copy of the calculations to take to the financial regulator. Funnily enough they instantly recognised the error and sent another cheque in the post:)

Britton got me a quote with XS direct when Eagle star refused to cover me on the FTO.
