wheell dimensions query

Postby paul2508 » Tue Nov 23, 2010 11:07 pm

im looking at a new set of wheels for my fto. they are 17 inch 5 x 114.3 . but here is my question. i want the wheels to clear the ap calipers i have so what am i looking for ?? is it a bigger offset or wider wheel or...??? the wheels are available in et 45 .sounds too wide for the offset .never really got my head around these wheel dimensions.i also cant seem to find a size on my ssr wheels to get an idea of their dimensions, only the pcd embossed on the rim.
any help would be very helpful

cheers.
...Me fail english?..Thats unpossible.....

You haven't mentioned what width the rims are. I would imagine an offset of 45 would be too weak - better going circa an offset of 30 to 34. Any more agressive (20-30) and you may require wheel arch rolling (not a big job).

I'd prefer a more agressive offset than 45 for a 7.5 inch wide rim. Somewhere around 32 would be better looking and shouldn't rub.

Offset will be the main concern when looking to clear a caliper. Too much offset though and your rim is sticking out past the arches and possibly rubbing on them unless rolled. The design of the rim can also have a smaller effect on caliper clearance.

As mentioned keep the offset in the low 30's and you should be ok (best not to go below 25 on the FTO). If you really want that et45 offset rim then you could add spacers but I'd have a preference for going with the correct offset rim to begin with. An et 45 rim will sit too far inside the arches and will look cack even if it clears the BBK caliper (which IMO is unlikely).
