squeeking noise

Postby macspratt » Thu Mar 10, 2005 7:21 pm

Hi guys,,got a slight squeek from one of the drivers side wheels, some times it comes and goes, the faster the wheel moves the squeek speeds up,its ever so slight but anoying.
I seem to be geting a bit of break dust on the alloys, could this be anything to do with it.
The steering and everything else is fine, but squeeks more as u press the break, and some times its not even ther at all.

any ideas guys???

keep up the good work!!!!!!

Hi Aiden

It could be something as simple as worn brake pads, it could also be the guard at the rear of the disk rubbing, either way, get down there and have a good look. I had a similar problem last year and I replaced the pad retaining clips which quietened things down somewhat.

Had a good look this morn, found that the right front wheel was hard to move by hand,so i jacked up the other side and it spun free about 1 full turn when i let go,seem ther is something wrong with the caliper, binding the breaks on or something ,what do u think??hope its not going to be a new caliper.
Did the oil and filter service with no probs ,i had a slight tapit noise first thing in the morning ,but the forte top end treatment seems to have sorted that out, reccomended stuff but at £ 17 it should be,,lol.

The caliper could be seized, the only way to check this is to take it off and have a look. The piston seals may need replacing, AFAIK, Camskill sell the seal kits.

Hi CJ thought the seals kit was just for leaking pistons, may be i am wrong?but anyway i need two hands to turn the wheel so it sounds like it is the pistons as u say, going to strip them down tomorrow and give everything a good clean, may be i will change the pads as well they were only put in 7 months ago looking at my bills and there is loads left on them, but there only the standerd ones,do u recomend any good 1s ??,ive been reading about the green stuff and red ceramics.
just 1 more thing, shoud the front wheels on an auto spin as freely as a manual e.g my vectra,as they do 1.1/2 turns??just wondering.

THANX AIDAN!!!

Keep up the good work guys and gals!!!!!!

Once the auto is in neutral its out of gear so should be the same as a manual, spin away.

Hi guys, striped down both the front calipers this morning and found both pistons where stiff, had to take them off compleatly to give them a good hoverhaul, and a wd40,put them back on and copper sliped everything, they are as free as a bird now and no anoying squeeks thank the lord.

Thanx alot for the advise guys, its done the job!!!!
