Advice needed

Postby thesaint » Wed Jul 05, 2006 12:21 pm

Hi all,

Just looking for a bit of advice.

Timing belt went on my GR. Depending on how many valves are gone could be a big(expensive) job to fix.

Before this happened for a few weeks the tip box would sometimes get stuck in 3rd and the 'N' light would start flashing. If I switched the ignition off and then back on again it would be fine. This happened to me in total around 5 times.

My question is: is the above a sign that the tip box is about to fail? Is it worth my while getting the engine fixed?

You have a pm regarding the engine, and in relation to the TIP box I would check the transmission fluid level first. This could be a symptom of the box on the way out but hopefully not

If your "N" light was flashing at 2Hz, then it was overheating, if it was flashing at 1Hz then it could be a semsor. Run a diagnostics check on it and the error codes will tell you if it is a sensor or not.

See here for how to do it.

Could be oil level or faulty sensors. As long as it's behaving while driving it should be ok.

My box died last December and I had that exact problem where it would get stuck in 3rd, and N would flash, but now it's going REALLY well.

I miss my car now that I've moved to London.
