Theres a guy on the forum from Cork called FTOREX, he transplanted an 6A13TT into an FTO a while back. He's not on very often so you could try to pm him. Take a look at Richard Battys site also - http://www.mitsubishi-fto.net/history.htm

You'd def have to upgrade suspension and brakes. I reckon the best place to start would be with a bare FTO shell and seam weld the chassis joins along with a roll cage. Then add your upgraded suspension and underbody strut braces. A nice 4 pot front/2 pot rear brake set-up / a mechanical LSD and some lightweight 17's with R888s and you'll be on the road to having a supercar beater. Won't be cheap - you won't have any change out of 15K but done right you'll have a unique car you'll never want to sell.

If I didn't have the SC Zed the above is a route I'd have taken by now.

im really thinking about this . mmmmm maybe your right with new shell and just keep gpvr std mi-vec and drive it while doing the other monster , going to see if 4wd is possible .i find fto,s step out abit to east no rear weight compared to the front end.maybe abit mad but it might work, we made a mi-vec colt into a 4wd with an evo engine 278bhp . i want to make something different and fast and rare ,

Last time I seen FTOREX's transplant I was not progressed any further. engine was in bay. Lots of the bits purchased but he was busy with work and his sideline of rebuilding Mazda Rotary engines.

Danny if you were interested I have the VR4 and a Absolutely mint rolling shell. You could break the Legnum and make a good share of your money back.

Its the best thing I ever did, I loved it for the road you want a max of 400. I use to trackday mine up to 400bhp it was great fun.

Richard - your build would be known to many of the older members on here (and its fair to say that you have pushed the boundaries on the FTO) but what are the chances you could give some pointers towards a fairly straightforward VR4 transplant inc what parts are needed and what to look out for (what gearbox? / LSD? / fitment etc).

ok - FTO boxes bolt straight up to the VR4 engine, but as the VR4 engine has a rev limit of 7200 the box is a little short. Ive been running a longer Galant V6-24V gearbox.

Originally I ran a griptorque LSD but Ive now moved to a quaiffe.

Standard FTO driveshafts fit, but if your going to drag race and go for big power you want something stronger. I had some new shafts made, but then had problems with endcups breaking so Ive had new endcups made as well, and to date no problems.

As for dropping the engine if you stay twin turbo you have to bow the bulkhead to get the rear turbo in, you also need to lag the power steering pipe (I melted my 1st one) and lag your gear selector cables, as it gets very hot back there.

you need to create new downpipes as the VR4 ones dont fit.

relocate your battery to the boot.

modify your bonnet as it catches the top of the engine.

Fit an uprated fuel pump

then install yourself an oil cooler and intercooler and associated pipework

and it should look something like ths :)

On standard Turbos you should be able to push somewhere in the region of 340bhp. If you want more then you need to start looking into a single turbo, and to some extent if you start with a single turbo its easier, as you dont need to bow the bulkhead and you dont need to lag the power steering pipes etc... and your intercooler pipework is easer.. once done it will look something like this :)

If anyone is considering this, I am selling this engine and the single turbo conversion.

I've got my 2.37lt EVO stroker kit ready, I will be starting that soon, and it will be going in the FTO :)
