Facelifted facelift

I finally got round to a couple of mods I've been wanting to do for a while.
Some of you might have seen them in Wexford... but then again the car was filthy :oops:

I got rid of the dodgy wire mesh and replaced it with this plastic one.

I also fitted the CAI I got from Dave...a year ago.
There wasn't a whole pile of room, so I went in through the grill and the plastic shroud.

HIDs next,
Below are the before and after pictures, same camera settings.
They are a huge improvement over the stock lights but I think the effect looks a bit exaggerated in the pictures.

Overall I'm very happy with how it turned out, I was 50/50 about the CAI trumpet but it's growing on me.
And for the eagle eyed amongst you, yes I park on carpet...don't you?

Very nicely done Bernard. I'm very impressed with the drilling of the hole for the CAI, makes a very tidy job of it.
One thing you didn't mention which might interest some people is about the HID's. Those are the 50W ones?

Yeah, I said I might as well be the guinea pig.
The seller was very helpful, answered a few questions I had and gave me £5 off the P&P.
If you're around sometime I'd like to do a side to side comparison with yours.

That looks really well Bernard - always wanted a CAI in my FTO's. Upgraded grill works very well too.

As for carpeting under your FTO - I'm just surprised I can't see the quilt you undoubtedly use to tuck her in at night. :lol:

Wow nice 1 Bernard, need to replace my hids but 2behonest know sweet feck all about them, would you recommend these beasts and does any1 know how they fare upto the OEM's?, and are they a direct swap? or does a bit ov wiring have to be done?

O and anychance of a few more snaps of the CAI? these are the exact things i need to do next on my fto.

I have to say the HIDs are brilliant, not sure how they compare against OEM ones though.
I'm sure they wouldn't be a direct swap though, the ballasts are 50W and you'd need the matching bulb.

I'd imagine spares from a 35W kit would swap straight in though (correct me if I'm wrong).


I'll take a few pics of the CAI for you later.

No, I just used a snips.
Some people get them precut though :wink:

I need a small (8" x 4") section of this mesh to protect the oil coolers on the RX-8, would be a pity to buy a whole sheet and end up wastng most of it. If anyone is looking to buy more of the stuff, I'd be willing to go halves...

a full size mesh (of the one that Berno got ) will cover 2 face-lift bumpers (just the wide opening- not the space for fogs)
