FIRST TIMER! - FEW QUESTIONS

Postby Marcopolo » Tue May 08, 2007 8:01 pm

Hey guys, I finally bought myself an FTO other day.
GPX Mivec - Auto - 95

I am planning to invest some time and money into it. I have a few questions if you could help out.

1. The original mitsu stereo has a Sanyo CDF-C102 10CD changer wired into it on channel 1. Every now and again the radio kicks in over the playind CD. Can I do anything about this?

2. It has the CU9400 Sat Nav in it. Is this of any use at all? The Unit or the screen in the car?

3. The doors have ugly rubber addons above them which I have not seen before, just wondering if its ok to remove them.

4. There are 2 antenna on the car, 1 on the back which comes out when the ignition is on and one on the front controlled by a button in the car. Any idea why there are 2?

I am sure I will think of some more but if you guys could answer these, it would be great. I love the motor though (except the VRT paid today)

Hi Marco - Welcome. Ad Congrats on your new car.

1. Not Familiar with this setup - but on some of these systems there are dip-switches (small switches) that set the frequency the cd bit transmits on. If Not I'd go ahead and replace it.

2. The Sat nav the imports come with are normally localised to the region they come from - google the manufacturer and the model number & check if you can get EU software for it - I'm afriad the norm is that it's not available - you may still be able to hook the screen up to something else depending on the connectors it has.

3. Rubber addons? Would these be wind deflectors perhaps? - Can you post a picture (or upload it to www.imageshack.us and post the direct link)..I haven't heard of rubber addsons before Anybody??

4. Is there a CB in there ;-) No honestly wouldn't be able to tell you why somebody would have two antennas - unless ofcourse there was a TV installed in the car at somestage..However the antennas for the tellys are generally massive things.

Enjoy.

Yes I would say that they are wind deflectors alright,

on the antenna subject, which is the norm, front or back?
The one on back defo works on the ignition independend of the dash switch.

Anyone recommend a resonably priced alarm system.

Congrats on your purchase! Stoopid grin time!

That yoke on the front of the car sounds like a parking aid - so you can see where the corner of your car is. Not the most attractive add on to the car but having said that there's a lot of people around that could do with one!!

The aeriel on the front is likely to be a retractable guide post, popular on Japanese cars, they mark out the front corner of the car, very useful for paralell parking. sometimes illuminated.

Ok so, I got my alarm fitted, happy days.
I took of the ugly windbreakers thinking they were completly held on with silicone, alas nope! They were super glued on.

Now I need to replace the black trim from around the top of both doors, where can I get these?
Also the headlights have a little dirt on the inside, are these sealed units or can they be cleaned?

Regards
Marco

I had a condensation problem on the front left side light pod.. Had to use the Oven trick to get inside the pod but found it difficult to remove the pod as I had to loosen the bumper.. (search the data base)

I also have those ugly rubber wind blockers and that front antenna. Mine does nothing but sit there if its a parking aid so not sure what the hell its for.

Let us know how you get on with the black trim replacment I might do mine. 8)

It is defo an parking aid.
I am waiting on a price from Mitsu on the trims I will let you know for sure.

Had a good look at the headlights today, the marks are on the outside of the headlight covers, looks like years of wax maybe? Any ideas how to go about removing the stains/marks, tried scrubbing it with hot soapy water.... No use.

The lacquer on your headlights has melted due to heat - if you do a search there are several guys on here that have repaired it. Its a very simple fix. Basically some 2000 grade wet & dry sandpaper and some TCut.
