When I was 20 having any type car was a hit with the babes!
Had a rusty Toyota Starlet with a broken front seat, hatchback door was rusted shut, front seat was broken so you would often find yourself lying on the back seat without warning, no mirrors, no handbrake, 3rd gear AWOL, radiator overheated if you dared go into traffic for more than 3 mins. bonnet would blow up unexpectedly ----- endless list!
I was 'THE MAN'
:!:

Dave your Ma has pretty good taste in car then I take it..

I have a terrible car history.

--DK--
1st car - 1988 Daihatsu Charade 1.0l (3cyl) with SPORTS exhaust.
2nd car - 1983 Mazda 626 1.6lx (4speed - blue velour interior! - top speed 180kmph downhill! - wobbly as jello) - starter, exhaust & radiator went within two months of purchase. Piece of crap car. At the time - I believed it to be pimpin'!

--IRL--
3rd car - 1991 Daihatsu Charade 1.3l (Saloon - All electrics)

Radiator went going home from CC one night - steam everywhere.
Used to call it "the white wonder" cause I wondered how it was still driving.
Bought it for 700 - drove it for 1.5years or so - sold it for 350. Only changed the brakes and the oil on her.. CV joint was bust in one side. Very fun car to drive - doing 90kmph felt like you was doing 140..great!

4th car - 1998 Civic Saloon 1.5 lsi (Vtec) My first really nice car - I did love it - very sensible choice - had the space for all my DJ gear in the back. Still fast enough to get me home from work in time for coronation street.. Cornered like a pudding though.

5th car - My beloved 1995 GPX.. Drives like a dream, drinks like a sailor - and shouts like one too.. :-) Looks a bit like a mud-wrestlers car at the moment.

--- If you want a cheap car, that can be fixed with a hammer, bag of rusty nails, spit & gum.. Get yerself an old banger of a Charade..god they're crappy little cars - but they stay going!

If you want something that keeps breaking and you'll need to fix ALL the time. Get yourself a crappy 626! It doesn't look nice, it doesn't go very fast. I uses a lot of petrol, it makes you drive like a pensioner.. Everything is wrong with them.

#1 Renault 9 (parents car)... loved that car but christ was it crap

#2 1986 vw golf 1.3 - kept it for 5 months

#3 1987 205 gti (1.9) - ropy as hell, cleaned it up a bit and kept it for a year

#4 1990 205 gti (1.9) - great car - replaced the rear axle, uprated the suspension, stuck an mi16 engine with flowed head in it... best drivers car I ever owned...

#5 1994 FTO GS - tiptronic - great handling, great looking but too slow - ended up with a nice quad exhaust though.

#6 1995 FTO GR - tiptronic - great handling, great looking and fast :) Loved that car cause it sounded immense, was fast and truely rivalled the 205 in the bends

#7 2001 vw golf gti - stolen after 4 months

#8 2000 vw golf gti - present car, uprated suspension & chipped - not the greatest handling car in the world but pretty rapid, very solid and sweet interior (leather recaros)

#9 Who knows... currently on the lookout and it could be anything as long as it's fast and handles... lately I've looked at everything from S3 to TT to E36 M3 to mk5 gti.... I just can't decide, although the S3 is edging it right now....

S3????

C'mon.........An S3......are your ovaries playing up? Most coupes on the road look way sweeter than any hot Hatch.
Saying that, the Mk 5 golf looks excellent.

Aw man, the S3 is a sweet car - maybe not as pretty as some coupes but a hell of a car to drive (even if a touch un-involving) ;) I quite like grown up hot hatches  and the S3 would be right at the top of my list (even when you include the mk5 gti) - 4wd, 1.8t chipped to 265bhp and a sweet interior - what more could you ask for....

But if you insist on a coupe I'd be leaning in the direction of the 330ci... 8)

I must have the shortest list so far - can you call 2 a list 8)

1990 Volvo 480 ES 1.7 (the one with the popup lights) - held for 5 years and the parents still driving it
1995 FTO GPX (current) - pushing 7 years and still going well (apart from lack of child space)

Not sure what's next - probably going to need 4 doors
