my gpx manual only starts sometimes. ive changed the battery for a bigger one. when running theres 14.5v across the battery sould this be more? sometimes when try and start seems like the battery goes flat. could it be a dodgy starter?

Solenoid is prob sticking in the starter. Like steelroe said, few taps should unstick it and get it moving.

Or it could be the ground wire that runs from the starter.. try that before the hammer bit.. Just jiggle the wire that's bolted onto the starter around a bit - if she starts without grinding noises the starter is prolly alright..

If you have to go down that route then one of the starter componants is on the way out. Suggest you replace with a second hand one or get it re-conned by an auto electrician. The starter motors in our cars tend to need attention after 10 years or so.

Depends on where in the drive I park - in some spots I can't fit the trolly under - it obviously isn't 100% flat:-)

Use the one in the boot to raise the car slightly - then slide the trolley jack under & bobs your uncle..

With a bit of "hrumpfing" I can get my head under the front without raising it - it's not an optimal working position - but it's ok for jiggling wires about... oh - and a torch is a good idea, even in daylight it can be difficult to see whats what under the car :-)

I'm surprised with you Muad, given your avatar I thought you'd see the opportunity.

stick your head under the car - it's at the bottom of the engine at the very front..cylindrical shape..

Give the wires a tug 1st before battering it with the hammer - if the starter doesn't really do much it's likely to just be a dodgy ground connection..
