caliper colour. . . . White car

Postby mcgon1979 » Wed May 07, 2008 5:08 pm

suggestions? Been recommended many colours. Yellow seems popular these days, ala brembo. So is blue cause of the version r interior. Want something a bit different to red i think.

Yup, blue is the way to go. The red on Martins shows it goes very well with the white car, but if the seats are blue, I'd go with that.

You using spray or paint mcgon? I used spray first but it didnt come up half as glossy, the paint is easier to work with too and not nearly as much masking to be done, which is a b1tch to get around the pads. Plus if theres any breeze at all the spray has the potential to go everywhere, and does have a tendancy to run if not put on evenly. The paint is also way cheaper than the spray and has a better effect in my personal opinion anyway.

I think Im going to remove the calipers entirely and give them an undercoat of grey primer first. I'll have the car on ramp all day so no big deal to take the caliper off and save me masking anything up. After primer dries I'll use the paint. Not sure about spray or paint yet. I hear they have kits(for calipers) in halfords that you mix up and they leave a really nice vibrant lacquer on the calipers. I'll see whats available. Im also thinking about Red again! grrr... red on white does look savage. blue would be different though. Sure I'll see what grabs me in halfords.

hammerite it is... I think your right lads, blue could well be better than yellow... A nice dark blue. ALthough, you gotta admit, the yellow does cath the eye!! (I guess I;'ll be painting them whatever hammerite colour I can get on the day! :D)

The yellow does catch the eye, and in a good way, I was considering on my Black FTO, saw it on a black intergra before and looked savage.
However, you have to look at the car overall, so those close-ups don't really say it all, and with the blue interior, I'd def paint them blue.

good points TopCat. With the high/small windows on the car you can not even notice the blue interior is the thing. Not unless your up close looking in. Damn it I have a hankering for that yellow now! :D

Bright hues like Yellow, green or orange is fine if you are showing off large 6 pot caliper brakes etc but for the GR's 1 pots or the mivecs 2 pots I'd be more inclined to just make it look classy.

Not yellow, just think what they'll look like with a bit of brake dust after a while, manky even when cleaned!
Blue is cool and would match the interior, subtle but clever IMO. Red too would work well with the white but make sure it's a really vibrant, signal red. Some of the heat treated paints have a tendancy to be more on the orange side like Brems etc.
Silver with black lettering, just make up a stencil with 'Mitsubishi' and spray or paint in black?. Saw one once and it actually worked quite well.
Or Blue with white lettering, that would work very well against your white body work. :?
You're right to get the calipers off, much better finish. Braided lines would be good while you at it!

I def think blue mcgon, its down to the interior, though you think it mightnt be noticed too obviously it will catch your eye and something wont seem right. And that pic of the blue calipers looks good if thats the way itll turn out. Sometimes having too many different colours on a car can be off-putting.

I like yellow, but Mark makes a good point about the dirt.
I've red on my black fto, but thats cos some of the interior is red. I can post some pics if you want.
