Strange metallic hiss sound when driving slowly -- Sorted!!

Postby IrishPhoenix » Mon May 15, 2006 9:10 am

I did a full oil change on friday and don't know if it's a co-incidence but I started hearing an unusual infrequent/intermittent sound coming from the front driver side wheel area (i think). It's hard to describe sounds online but its like short hiss but with a TS sound TSSSSSS. Any ideas what this could be? I only hear it when driving slowly.

You know, somebody actually complimented me on my driving today. They left a little note on the windscreen, it said 'Parking Fine'.

It could be the wheel lightly rubbing off the wheel arch liner or maybe the disk it making contact with the brake shield? Hard to diagnose, suggest you jack up the car and check around the wheel for anything out of the ordinary.

Hmm! Am going to have to look at it properly. It seems to be coming from the rotation of the wheel and only audible when driving slowly. Like when a piece of card rubs on the spokes of bike wheel but not the same time. It's also not audible on breaking and not when rolling out of the drive. Just as the car starts to gain speed. Sort of like metalic sound. Wonder what the hell it is. Maybe something loosened when i jacked the car up at the front. It's bothering me though. :?

Problem Sorted!!! Apparently the brake pads hadnt been changed for a long time even though I only got the car from the garage in august. It seems changing brake pads is low down the priority list in services these days. Our good friends in Discount Tyres & Auto Services sorted me out in 30 mins (fnarr!) Got new pads fitted, brake fluid etc for 85 Euros. Not bad. They are very genuine and helpful up there. I'd recommend anyone to go there :)
