Knocking

Hi there,

Seem to be getting a weird knocking noise.... just in the last 3-4 days when i do a full lock... say when reversing out of somewhere... get a noticable clonk and then nothing....

Not too sure what it could be.... i'm pretty sure its not anything rubbing but the fact that its intermittent makes it more difficult to troubleshoot

Any ideas?
Don't want it effecting my 1/4 mile times:)

When turning you say, noise from front I assume? Usual suspects are ARB bushes\droplinks and track rod ends.

Knock on turning.... drives starting to go maybe? have you replaced those since you got the car?

CV joints?

Had one go on me in my Diahatsu - and the symptoms were exactly like what you describe..have a looksie - they look like little rubber blobs - the the rubber blob has a hole in it it's time to get it replaced..

Oh and don't describe them as rubber blobs to your mechanic..he'll promptly try to rip you off

CV boot is what you mean The boot doesn't necessarily have to be ripped for the joint to go but its most of the cause - when the boot rips, the joint dries up.

Take the car around some roundabouts and hard corners, if you hear knocking, then its most likely the CV joint thats gone.

I've always called CV joints 'drives' but same thing... as the lads say you can visually check for any holes in the cv boot but it may be just gone anyway.

Do check the doors..maybe there's somebody there?

could be ur wheels rubbing against the wheel arch?
