Buckled rim

Postby CJ » Fri Jul 08, 2005 8:48 am

One of my alloys is buckled, I swapped the rear wheels onto the front last weekend to spread out tyre wear, result is that the steering wheel is all over the shop at speed. I had the same problem with another set of tyres fitted so I'm pretty sure that the rim needs sorting out. What I need to do now is swap one of the wheels back so I can determine which rim is buckled.

Anyone had this work done in the past? I'm gonna call my local alloy repair shop later to see what the crack is.

Maybe a trip to Dave McCann is in order - most tyre fitters would be able to spot a buckled rim fairly easily. I previously buckled a rim on a set of speedlines and my only option was to buy a new one or take a trip up the north to some place up there that are meant to be fairly handy. Bought a new one as it was less hassle but I'm not sure how easy it would be to get hold of a similar rim to yours CJ.

You sure its a rim and not something like bearings?

Yeah, as I said, I have the same problem the last time I swapped wheels around on different tyres. It might be easier to swap the tyes on the buckled rim and stick it back on the rear.
