I found Kumho Ecsta's a bit noisy, the compound is harder than most.

i recently noticed that the tires i got with the car are different width front/rear 215front 235rear
what do you mean over steer ? and how rhis difference in width affect normal road/highway handling?

FWD cars shouldn't have different width tyres on. Wider rear tyres are generally found on powerfull RWD cars to prevent oversteer. A set-up of 235 on the rear and 215 on the front of an FTO will increase understeer (the front of the car pushes wide as the rear has more grip). If this was reversed to 235 front and 215 rear you could introduce oversteer on the limit (the back steps out) - not exactly what you want in a FWD car as you won't be able to control on the throttle like in a RWD car.

I found the best compromise between comfort and performance on an FTO on Irish roads is 215/45 all round. The FTO already understeers with the same width all round so putting wider tyres on the back to increase that understeer will effect handling negatively.

ok i got somehow the ideea

but the previous owner seems to have put different width wheel rims on car... the front ones are stated as 17x7 and the rear ones 17x8
well look here:
front

and rear

in your opinion , can i put 215's on back if the current wheel is designated for 235 ? or should i go for 225 as a middle ground(i rather not since width increases, increases fuel consuption and noise:).. not sensible.. but in theory true)

as i thought; i found somehow the answer of the stamped numbers;
following a couple of details ; bold my case

maybe someone needs this in picking a wheel

17" Wheels

((2000 / pi) - (17*25.4)) / 2 = 102.409
102.409 / .40 = 256.024
102.409 / .45 = 227.577
102.409 / .50 = 204.819
102.409 / .55 = 186.199
255 x 40 r17 = 1997mm
((17*25.4) + (2*(255*0.40))) * pi = 1997.424 [ET63 +-00 17x9.0J +-0.5J Wheels]
225 x 45 r17 = 1993mm
((17*25.4) + (2*(225*0.45))) * pi = 1992.712 [ET63 +-15 17x8.0J +-0.5J Wheels]
205 x 50 r17 = 2001mm
((17*25.4) + (2*(205*0.50))) * pi = 2000.566 [ET63 +-25 17x7.0J +-0.5J Wheels]
185 x 55 r17 = 1996mm
((17*25.4) + (2*(185*0.55))) * pi = 1995.853 [ET63 +-35 17x6.5J +-0.5J Wheels]

so its safe as it gets to use 215/45

Don't know where you're getting the figs in bold (Offset of 63??? - that'd look pretty gammy).

From your photos you are running a 7 inch front (offset of 32) and an 8 inch rear (offset of 38) - tyres of 215/45 all round will suffice.
