This sounds like complete bullsh1t I would not accept such shoulder shrugging :smt102 he's a dealer FFS (affiliated with japimportsdirect) and should know his stuff. That special edition is a line if ever I heard one.
Have you asked the guy if he is the registered owner and if so how long he has owned the car?

Is there anybody out there who knows a painter who might be up for a wee nixer? Any thoughts on cost?

I would not expect much change out of €2k for a full respray.

A complete respray will really cost you - all the car needs is a few touchups really - you just got to be carefull with the paint match. Steel Silver seems to come in a variety of flavours ( just ask PT FTO) - you need to be confident in the bodyshops ability to match the paintwork.
You spoke about skirts and spoilers earlier - this would be a good time to get a bodyshop to fit and spray parts at the same time as doing the touch-ups to the paintwork - it would save you money in the long run.

As an indication of cost - I bought some DC skirts and a Hiro rear spoiler a couple of months back - cost to fit these parts including blending the side skirts and welding up and respraying holes in rear boot (from orig spoiler) as well as spraying the skirts and spoiler and front bumper, all side panels and rear bumper and boot lid came to €1300. It would have cost circa €800 if I didn't blend the skirts as this took quite a bit of work.

If you just want to get rid of a few scratches and a dent or two then you shouldn't need to spend more than €200-300.
It really depends on what you want to spend on the car and what you want to do in the long run.

Remember you will probably also want to factor in basic wearing parts that may need to be done such as plugs, cambelt, ARB bushes and droplinks etc - typical items that generally need to be replaced if the present owner hasn't already addressed them.

Thank god for credit cards.. ;-) In all fairness I actually thought it would be a harder hit on the wallet - pretty happy with that info!

According to the current owner car has just had timingbelt & plugs replaced as part of a full service. Bushings (front & rear) have also been replaced. I couldn't spot a single bit of rotting rubber on the car - but then again I didn't get it on the lift.

The car will pass it's nct on tuesday ...I think that's what he said. (could have been wednesday, wasn't really listening at that stage, was too busy looking at the ding!) - so shocks will be safe for a bit.

I might just pick up a kit before I get the ding and the touch-ups done.

I must say I think the Hiro wing is a very bold statement - it looks amazing, but I think I'll go for something slightly smaller myself.
I absolutely looove the blended sideskirts. They look awesome. I think the difficult bit is to get a line going through the car - without simply buying a complete kit (where's the fun in that?)

Can you recommend a bodyshop by chance?

Here's a thought - I might just hold off on alloys untill spring-time and focus on kit for now..the greasy dirty season is coming up..not much fun trying to keep alloys sparkling whilst driving on the meath/dublin backroads.

I've managed to get seller to know off a fair bit, because of the ding really - and also she comes with a cdplayer - which i'll flog on eBay straight away - I still have my cd/mp3 player from my previous car.

Getting all the money sorted tomorrow - so I'll have cash in hand when I get to see her again.

IMO they'd look better on a van - but I'd want to change them anyways. (Hope I didn't just offend an owner somewhere  )
..I want black ones..negative offset - with polished/chrome rim.. yummy.

The seller actually owned the car for 3months now, he's not affiliated with JapImports, so he doesn't know a whole lot about the car.
JapImports is advertising it for him cause he's importing another car through them - something bigger - that holds a childseat in the back.

Cheers, I think a touch-up is the way to go :-p

No need to be so polite on the Hiro wing - it was all or nothing for me - either no spoiler or a F*** off one that added to the existing kit. I didn't feel a version R or a standard spoiler would do the DC skirts and TM front splitter justice. The one thing you can say about it is that it certainly gathers attention.

The only bodyshop I could recommend is the one that has done all my bodywork for the past few years in Limerick - bit of a trip for you though.

If I were you I'd get some touch-ups done - get a set of lowering springs on the car and some clear repeaters. Maybe a strut brace to sharpen up the front end - All can be done for under €500 and would make a nice difference to the looks, stance and handling of the car.

Oh no..don't get me wrong I think the Hiro wing is awesome - it's just so huge man! I Denmark we'd call it a bookshelf rather than a wing.. Not many cars will look good with a wing that size..but the FTO takes it well.

Limerick might be a tad far off.. Seeing as I work in Dub but live just outside drogheda. Co.Glaway would actually be good too..I've been known to head for Portumna & Tynagh on the odd occasion.. So if anybody has any thoughts about good Bodyshops in any of those areas..I'd be most grateful.

Clear repeaters are in the top of my list - Was thinking I'd try the MX conversion or something - would be able to get a spare set of std-oranges from eBay if I screw it up.

Also I'm really going to need atleast one new taillight (preferably two that look different) ..haven't been able to find any yet though..I'm sure they're there. 8)

Oh I got an SMS from the seller of the grey FTO in Wexford. It's a non mivec - with 65-66k on the dial..according to seller she's in prefect condition..I dunno.. I'm sticking with the mivec..wroum!

Holy moses... I'd be better off getting a set of lexus implants for an intergra or something and getting them custom fitted.

that's madness.

Good info nonetheless.

Was it not for the Project F lights - they look quite a bit different to the Lexarse ones which IMO I wouldn't let near my FTO. Every Chav in the country has these on his Corsa - why put them on an FTO?

Agreed! a pet hate of mine. I think the so called lexus lights look sh1t on the majority of cars. They just look out of place -not cool, not stylish just wrong. And it's been done to death.
I have noticed a worrying trend where certain manufacturers have started putting these on as OEM spec (hyundai people carrier, megane special edition). :smt017 :smt018 :smt078

Lights

Postby Muad_dib77 » Fri Sep 02, 2005 3:17 pm

You're right - it's being done to death. That was a dumb comment to make..I'm really after projector style lights - preferable with a black backdrop. Haven't seen anything anywhere. Maybe they just don't exsist for FTOs.

I dunno.

Lexus/Altezza lights look good on Lexus' (which btw are lovely to drive, although the standard version is under powered!)

I mentioned earlier that my insurance would be 2k with Hibernian ..it's actually "only" 1500 if I stick my GF on there as a named driver. - so that's the way ahead - also if I let her try on the FTO she might get smitten. Might get her to flog her 1.4 Golf for something with a bit more oomph.

Spotted a lady in a lovely red FTO near the Blachardstown Business park today - looked real clean (the car that is!).

The Project F's exist but they're very rare - pass hands in the UK for big bucks - up to 600GBP in fact. These are the only aftermarket lights I have liked on an FTO.

!!Drooool!! sooo nice .

That is pretty spot on.. 600gbp though..Ouch..

I think I'll put those lights way way waaaay down the list of things to do..

Oh btw would I be completely stupid to buy secondhand backboxes (twin bolt-on HKS jobbie) - and secondhand sideskirts & aprons (topmix).. I'm thinking it could be a pretty dodgy affair to stick them on after they've been on another car.
Also Does anybody know if the aprons will fit on a non standard rear bumper?

So many questions.. Sorry lads.

They look to me like the chrome project F's - What many of the guys in the UK have done is to mod these further to reduce the bling factor - i.e. spray the chrome bits body colour or black.

TBH I don't think they're that bad.

But they are super blingin'..Nothing a bit of matte-black on that chrome wont fix.

I'll be stickin' with my standard light for the time being though.

Still haven't got insurance (see other thread for more details on this).
