Cost to respray

Postby CByrne » Mon Mar 07, 2005 8:17 pm

Does anyone know the appox cost to respray the car, how well it turns out, and if it matters what the original colour would be.

Deseperately want the GR manual but not much luck so far, bar one that looked great, despite the colour (Red). Personal preference for me anyway, I know a lot of people think the car looks great in Red, but I much prefer the Blues (Moonlight or Midnight) or standard Blacks and Silvers.

Cheers, site is brilliant, would be lost without reading all the information in the forums. CJ would you mail be your address, dont have PenPal set up but would like to contribute to the Hosting costs.

Hey, if you are looking to keep the original colour i would say you are looking about the 1000euro mark, but if you are looking for a new colour then about 2000-2500euro. These are from quotes i have got here on the west coast.(Will vary with different painters)
What ever you do, it is best to shop around for both price and quality. Try not to sacrifice one for the other if possible. It is a fine line but best to shop about.

I got a quote of 1500 to get mine done in a lighter grey and take out two pretty big dents and alot of small ones. The same guy repaired my lancer and was impressed by the job.

PM sent ;)

As already stated, respraying in the same colour will be cheaper than respraying in a different colour, I'd budget €2k to get the latter done properly. If you're going for fancy paint, that will also drive up the overall cost. What colour are you thinking of btw?

Thanks for the info, prob a bit over budget but handy to know it can be done.
CJ, I really like the colour of your old GS, moonlight blue.
I know it's up for sale but just got Insurance quotes on the manual GR so gonna go for the extra horsepower., seems it's a world apart from the GS.
Once it's not Red though I'll consider anything, I know that particualr colour is very rare so no doubt I'll be buying a Black or Silver, but hey they look great aswell so I won't be complaining!
Also funds wired CJ

For the left side of my car and the back (including sorting out a few bumps/scratches/etc.) it was €750, guy did an excellent job so happy enough. Same colour as it was (steel silver).

CByrne,
I too considered going down this route when I was looking for my car. Like CJ says it'll cost more to change colour. But as I understand it, it's not just a case of changing colour, but also the relative 'darkness' of the colour. I was considering having a car painted silver, and had too potential cars in mind one white, one imperial red. My local paint shop advised that going from white to silver would be easy enough, but from red to silver could be a problem due to seepage of the original colour. I'm sure if you threw enough money at the job that this could be overcome.
I seem to recall an earlier thread where you quoted a budget of 6k for the car. On that basis you'd be looking at spending 4k on the car + 2k on paint. Unlikely that you would get a car in reasonable condition (and worthy of having 2k spent on it's paint) for 4k.

When I bought my car it was already re-sprayed blue, looks the biz, real eye catcher and you could never tell it was any other colour, even the engine bay was re-sprayed :D

you could try www.carcraft.ie - I don't know if they do full resprays but I left my golf in there this morning to have some scuffs done and they seem really professional and reasonable - worth checking to see what they can do or if they can reccommend somewhere at a good price.

Thank you for your e-mail, we do not respray full cars, the average cost of a full resray is around €1500 for your car. Our advise is to buy a car the colour you want because you will never get your money back, or the car sold in the future as people may think it has been crashed.

Justin Derby

Dear Neil,
Respraying any vehicle in a different colour from original is extremely expensive as it requires the vehicle to be completely stripped ie engine out so as to respray engine compartment etc. It is very rarely done unless a car is being completely restored.
A complete change of colour respray can be up to 7k euro where as a respray of the original colour starts at about 1,800

Hi Neil,
the rough quote for a full respray with standard paint is 1500EUR. If you go for custom pain (strongly recommended) it will be extra 200 - 400 EUR, depends of type of paint : metallics, perls, flakes, cadnys, chameleon colours, etc... Two tone or graphics with airbrush can be done also. To pick the colour you lake you would need to come to our premises and look at the samples or visit web sites listed below:

Thanks for your request, hope to hear from you soon.

Regards,
Yuri.

Hope this helps...
