Supra Vs Skyline

Postby Dave » Mon Mar 08, 2004 10:16 am

how do folks, well this is the new mission, going to get one of these beast by the end of the year, anyone got any specs on these? and which one would ye reckon? i know the skyline is less common but personally think the supra looks better.

but if any of ye have spec on these, it'll save me going looking

I've been thinking 'Supra mkIV' myself recently (must resist!), n/a is 220bhp and the TT is specced @ 280bhp but is supposedly nearer to 300. The UK Supra has a higher output @ 320bhp, has bigger brakes and has a better spec internally. The GZ is the high spec model.
I don't know a whole lot about Skylines personally but I would worry about having any sort of engine work done on them over here. Serach the web for more info. This is worth a look in the meantime:

yeah i noticed there is a tt in the Buy&sell for 16500, bit pricey for a 95 but the ad says 320, and then i'd noticed that some of the specs were saying tt was 280, but i just think the supra bog stnadard just looks a whole lot beter than the skyline, and both are quick as a scalded cat.....

True, but its very easy to loose the Supra in any sort of wet weather, while these cars have traction control, most Supra owners seem to think its dangerous and keep it turned off :?
If the one in the B&S is a UK car then I would snap it up. Supras are mad money so 16 and a half sounds about right. Just remeber that you'll need a second job to keep that car in tax and petrol! (running standard unleaded in the Jap spec is a no no so be prepared to pay the extra 15 quid per fill for the privilage) .

that article was pretty good, skyline is better i suppose but on irish roads i reckon the supra is the way to go, but i won't even be contemplating buying until the end of the summer, i've to change the insurance over first and that'll be in september, but that will cover both cars.
but it's going to have to get some serious research..... (and cash  )

I wouldnt fancy having that much horse power and rwd but each to their own i guess! 220BHP from the 3L N/A is not very impressive, I would imagine it wouldnt be much faster than a mivec FTO given the extra weight.

You can get an N/A skyline a GTS but im not sure of the spec of it.

Personally I reckon the R33 skylines look pants - they remind me of old toyota corollas - a real 80's car but not in the good classic (capri, escort Mk1 & 2) sort of way - more "an old taxi" sort of way :-) So in this case I'd go for a Supra everytime.

But to be honest if you're gonna go to the trouble of importing I'd go for a nive EVO V or EVO VI seeing as insurance won't change unless the car value goes through the roof........ jaysus I want an EVO V

Alright Gaz, little to be doing with your time i see. I've seen yer man's skyline and it's the R33 GTS not what i was interested in.
Plans have now since changed so there'll be no skyline for another couple of years.

but definitley the R34 GTR!!!!!!

Skyline V Supra

Postby MadMax » Thu Feb 10, 2005 11:19 pm

I was looking at a Skyline R33 2.5 Turbo (12950 Euro 1996) in Limerick two weeks ago. Thankfully it was just sold because I would have bought it. I’ve been told to stay away from Japanese Skylines because they are restricted in there own country so much that Nissan puts small brakes etc. on them because they never need them, keep this in mind if your buying. Apparently Supra’s come with full spec regardless.

After owning the FTO for two and a half years, I think a step up in power require AWD. A Skyline R33 2.5 turbo has a minimum of 250 bhp and can be brought up to 300 bhp with very little effort. Put that through the rear wheels on a corner in the wet and you’ll end up facing the wrong direction (rear tyres 300 Euro each). The AWD Skylines costs a fortune, silly money.
