True but is it not still good value when compared to the FTOs rivals in the same class?
Celica, Tegs etc are all way more costly. I think the FTO has become undervalued due to the amount of 94/95 tiptronic sheds knocking about the place..

Back on topic - I cant understand what the story is with all these FTOs suddenly appearing on the scene.

I mean look at that - http://www.carzone.ie/usedcars/index.cf ... ars+%3E%3E
16 of them, and 14 of them facelifts!!!

I remember back in Feb/Mar looking for mine and you couldnt find one for love nor money. Sean Byrnes were literally the only ones listed and they didnt even exist, the sneaky feck is just broker posing as a dealer...

Must be due to the new SVA laws in the UK, is the only thing I can think of to explain it....

That's it exactly - I talked to someone I know in the trade and he said there are just more FTO's coming our way because they can't go to the UK!

It may be an 8 year old car but you get porsche boxster performance and handling for a fraction of the cost - an 8 year old boxster (1998) will set you back €30k+ so in relative terms it's still good value.

Personally I think the price of cars in general is crazy... I mean 5 years ago who'd have thought anyone would pay €40k for a GTI (hatchback) and now a fully loaded golf GTI (with DSG) will set you back €40k+!!! Complete madness!

I'm not sure that I buy this argument fully though.
It was, I believe, the crazy insurance that killed off FTO imports to Eire in the first place. Now you could argue that the insurance market has calmed here.......to an extent (still plenty of madness and people being shafted all the same) but insuring an FTO is still a big issue as can clearly be seen from the insurance forum.
To my mind the 'closing' of the UK market does not explain why the cars are ending up here why not New Zealand, Australia, Cyrus, etc or any other of the counties that import used jap stuff on mass? :smt017

I agree, cars in general are overpriced. But remember the government take is approximately half. I'd be willing to spend €20k on a new golf GTI

I suspec it has a lot to do with the fact that UK cars were imported via Ireland (i.e. they landed in ireland first). So now the UK market is closing up it's easier to keep shipping to ireland and selling there rather than develop another route - I could be way off the mark here and am just spouting off the top of my head

Undervalued - Overvalued..

My next car will be an FTO as well..Unless I'll be in a position to buy one of those thigs with the wee horsie on the bonnet. :-)
