For awhile now, well a few years i have noticed a humming noise inside the car,i was told it was a wheel bearing, but i cant tell where the noise is coming from...........How can you tell if wheel bearing needs replacing, how do you check............cheers everyone.....
GFALLS. do you have these grease cap on your wheels? I have none on mine but i want to know if other FTO owners have these caps covering the bearings....
A wheel bearing on its way out will humm or whistle..a good indicator of something untowards will be sideways movement in the wheel. As you get closer to catastrophic failure you will hear a grating noise (metal on metal, v. unpleasant).. the very last thing you hear is a sudden increase in noise followed by silence..immediately followed by your car dropping in a corner as a direct result of the wheel and hub coming off...
If in doubt, get a mechanic to check it over..
Somewhere there's a picture of a lad sideways in mid air because of a failed bearing..

I Heard that not having these grease caps on the wheels is a big mistake,as when not covered dirt, water will get into wheel bearings....I dont think my fto ever had these caps but im changing mine cause they are kaput.I dont know how long the wheel bearing will last without the cap inplace, even though the cars 16 yrs old i dont know if their was any on it ........
