Dont know about the roll cage but I'd say you'd have to have back seats definately, they go by what the car is down as in the log book, and the FTO will be down as a 4-seater, so if it doesnt hold 4 people safetly you'll fail, least thats my understanding of it.

I think before you bring/book the nct you would have to change the details on the log book to suit the cars spec ie...2 seater not 4.

To be fair, a roll cage is only gonna make the car heavier. unless you plan on rolling it, you won't see any benefit. I'd spend the money on handling mods to ensure you don't get into that (unlikely) situation

Great logic!

If you're planning on an out and out track car, install a cage. If you're not, don't.

I dunno - remember that a roll cage will also increase the structural rigidity of the FTO - to a much higher margin than a strut brace would. A properly installed roll cage will certainly help witht he FTO's handling.

Re Pauls initial query - I'm sure you could pick up FTO back seats at very reasonable money from Steelroe.

Not sure how much rigidity that would benefit handling the sort of roll cages that are generally fitted to road cars would add. maybe if it was a racecar type roll cage with diagonal braces, but IMO the ones that people fit to a road car are only for show.

I would also imagine that a good roll cage isn't exactly light. It's probably the equivalent of carrying a passenger weightwise.

So maybe what you gain in rigidity you lose through all of the additional weight.
