I would say 215/40 or 45 X 17's work best on an FTO - I wouldn't go to 18's - too harsh a ride and I'd say your handling would suffer as well.

I think your car is black Helen - so I'd say you'd get away with chrome (as long as its not too bling).

Personally I'd like Shadow Chrome Wheels or maybe lightweight black or white Jap alloys or maybe a chrome rim with black spokes.

Heres some ideas :

Bought a set of Alessio Turbo's + tyres last year for under €1K:

http://www.storm-eng.co.uk/Pictures/Allesio/turbo2.jpg - nice looking wheels with the "split rim" look.

http://www.performancealloys.com/images ... rsgthb.jpg - like the RSGT's too - I think Purple Ronnie has a set.

http://www.performancealloys.com/images ... chrome.jpg - like these too but your probably talking 1.5K for 17's.

Personally I think that a set of 17" 5 spoke alloys suits the car really well (I would say that cos thats what mine came with  ) Ive a blue FTO with white wheels, looks great!

Helen,
I'm inclined to agree with MfFTO. The standard FTO rims are 16" with 205/50 rubber and they do not fill the wheel archs very well. I would not bother replacing these for another set of 16's. The 17's really do set off the car very well and give it a much better appearance.

I have a set of white "Work" Cast Magnesium Alloys - would look a lot better on a Black, Blue or Red car though - would be a nice contrast - don't work as well on a silver car - but the car came with these alloys - they are lightweight - so I'm not gonna change for the sake of changing.
In the picture you can see there is still quite a gap on 215/40 tyres - I have since changed to 215/45 tyres (Bridgestone S03's)and it fills the gap a lot better - much better ride as well - I haven't lowered the car due to the Top Mix front splitter being too low for comfort already.

If you take a looka t this weekends meet pictures you can get an idea of what size suits the FTO - the burgundy car (Dave) has 18inch alloys and is lowered - the Red car (Neil) has 18's also but I don't think is lowered - CJ has 17's and is lowered (Facelift front) - Mustang has standard FTO 16's and is not lowered and I have the white 17's and have not lowered the car.

Personally I think understated wheels best suit the FTO, the standard ones being a good example. The FTO's main attraction from a looks point of view, for me, is the lines and shape of the car. If you put flashy wheels on there you'll be looking at them instead of the car itself.

When I got mine in from japan the front wheels were different from the back wheels, when I put the standards on so they all matched, the difference was huge, instead of looking at the mismatched wheels I was looking at the car itself and it made a huge difference.

There was pics of an FTO on before, fantastic job done on it, non standard red paint job, nice body kit, gleaming, but then it had bright chrome wheels which IMHO took away the attention from the best bits of the car.

Anyway, thats my 2c... I've std 16s with 205/50 tyres, think my ideal would be an understated set of 17s, maybe 205/45s like Mffto mentioned, but the stds are fine for now.

hth,
Kev.

Available in most outlets that sell Alloys - I got them through a Mate who has a garage here in Limerick for my GF's mazda - http://www.cbg.ie/CarPictures/default/CL_49309.jpg

Cost me €800 inc tyres for 15's (Mx5's don't like larger alloys and its already on Tein Adjustable suspension so no problem with gaps etc) but I'd say a set of 17's should cost you around €800 -850 not inc tyres.
Make sure you get a number of quotes - and that they quote for FTO fitment and Chrome type (not standard) - the cost of alloys varies so wildly in Ireland it pays to shop around.

BTW, you might already have this info, but the fitment details

PCD 114.3, bore 67
Offset 40 (although someone else mentioned 35-38).
5 stud of course.

I spoke about the offset before - AFAIK - its 35 -38 but you'll get away with 40 ok. - and you shouldn't really go bigger than a 7.5" rim or you'll be rubbing the arches.

In my own opinion an ideal wheelsize for FTO would be: - Wheel 17 x 7.5" rim - 67.1 bore - PCD 114.3 X 5 stud - Offset 35-38. 215/45 17 's tyres (though if lowered you may be better off sticking to 215/40 17's to prevent rubbing).

Way too bling for an average FTO - suits that particular car well though - but its had a fortune spent on it - as you well know you'd have to have 20K to spare to get an FTO brought up to that type of spec. Looks like the interior has had some serious modding done as well.

IMO though - going to all the trouble of the CF bonnet and boot, coilovers and big brake kit (performance mods) and then putting on some overweight massive alloys (with huge width on the Rear to give a RWD look) heavy Lambo door kit (aesthetic mods) and scrape along a couple of cm's off the ground is sending out a bit of a mixed message - You can have a fast car or a Pimp my ride car - spending the money to try and get both is a massive waste - a standard GPX Manual would probably leave him for dead - thats a waste of money in my eyes.

Having said all that - the car does look savage - good decision to go without the rear spoiler, door handles and side repeaters.
