halfrauds suck

Postby MY-JAP-MISTRESS » Sat Oct 03, 2009 11:33 am

went to get new plates made up for my mot last week. mot was on thursday and they arrived on wednesday.... with the wrong number ffs lucky enough the mot inspector was a nice guy and passed the car. only bad thing he said was i had a yellow screw on the front plate instead of a white one.. he also said he aint seen a jap import as clean as mine which made me smile. he also warned me that my s/steel break hoses could give me problems as they can burst yet still look fine from the outside. i dont really care tho as im legal for another year and all i had to spend was for 4 new tyres

Simple mistake, I've had lots of positive Halfords experiences.

I don't know Seb, they sell a lot of crap but there's always some good deals to be had.
I often get 3 for 2 on cleaning stuff and a power washer for €44 can't be bad.

The Halfords tools are very good quality IMO. I've been buying tools off them for a few years now and I've not had any trouble with anything. I'd recommend their tool sets for people doing DIY car work. I'd imagine mecahinc amount of work would wear the ratchets fair quick...although, they do have a lifetime warranty as well which means free replacments forever, but someone did tell me before that it dodn't apply to the ratchet mechanism.

It also helps that I have a Halfords Trade card. Makes tools, oil, bulbs and batteries A LOT cheaper.

Personally i HATE the place for several reasons, i like the layout and browsing but imo you'd be MAD to buy anything that was expensive in the shop, online bargains are WAY more cheaper, same stuff sometimes half the price online, what really pees me off is the halfords in the north is far cheaper, we get ripped down the south and it's no wonder why people travel up the north.

I'm just so surprised Halfrods is still running a business it's madness how expensive there stuff is compared to other shops, fair enough you might grab a deal there rarely but the majority of the time the prices just make me sick, actually it's comical price the radios then going online to compare:D

I much prefer to give my money to a small motor factors which always turns out cheaper for the parts i need.

All in all i find it handy to buy the odd bottle of wax or air freshener, and for tools hmmmm buy a set of Brit tool ratchets on ebay, better quality and actually will last a lifetime, and bets are cheaper aswell:D

Rip off merchants.
Rant over:D

I agree with most of what you say. I'm ALWAYS disappointed when I go to get parts. They claim to stock for all common but realistically they don't. They lost my business VERY quickly. Now I get all service parts in Tallaght Auto Parts. They're nice to deal with and have always had everything I've asked for. They even had FTO oil filters.

I've never had a problem getting FTO oil filters, arent they a common enough thing to get? They fit other cars too not just FTOs as far as I know.

Ye they do but usually the "mechanic" in halfords doesn't know this and just says they don't have them:)

Usually the "mechanic" in Halfords doesn't know his ar$e from his elbow and it results in a lot of standing around only to be told it'll be in on Monday...and then it never arrives. They don't even have stock of regular cars like an Almera and an Accent I was servicing. It's a joke. Tallaght Auto Parts have everything, they get it for you and they are WAY cheaper too. I was shocked! I thought the Halfords Trade card would end all suffering.

They even have a battery pack that's gone faulty since the beginning of August and the manager has forgotten to call back about it and the guy who dealt with me when I went in the first time with it basically avoids dealing with me when I go in. It's a very funny thing to see...someone almost running away from you.

Good point I suppose, I always get mine in a motor factors off the Kinsale Roundabout in Cork, have massive stock of everything. Except for the transmission oil filter, just get that off camskill.
