As per MJ - Not sure whether thats good or bad news. Its unlikely that it'd make financial sense from an Insurance assessors point of view to put the FTO back on the road. If you can - you should hang onto the remains - theres a few nice bits on that FTO (rims, exhaust, springs etc) that could be worth more separately than the market value of the car.

Might be a bit early for these sorts of suggestions... but IF I was looking for a new FTO.... you would do so well to beat this:

You're most likely right guys, it seems to me that unless it's somehow only suffered very light cosmetic damage they will consider it a write-off. When someone ran in to my last FTO the bill came out at about €4500 and that damage wasn't that severe. It's a damn shame because it was a beautiful car, and as has been mentioned it had a lot of great extras. I will have to see if it's possible to get it back anyway.

@Adrian - I've certainly had my eye on that. I'm well aware it's one of the best kept FTOs in the country and the price is basically a steal. However I'm not sure if I can see myself in a red car. Also, no Mivec.

Have you told Quinn yet? If it's not too bad then why bother reporting and fix it yourself...?

Also if you have bits you want to take off, tough, quinn won't let you take anything off or out of the car.

They had better since the keys for my bike lock and my license are in there!

I already reported it to Quinn yesterday when the Gardai told me it hadn't been recovered. It was Quinn who told me it had been recovered.

Think my cigarette lighter is in there too, Colm you borrowed it on the way back from the Rising Sun remember? And I meant to get it back off you but forgot about you. Must actually get one of those come to think of it, the standard ones are nice and robust looking.

Red car - thats fair enough, personal preference and all that. All this talk about MIVEC, its overrated lads. The difference between 180ps and 200ps on the road is barely noticeable ;)

Will be interested to hear what sort of condition the car is in when you clap eyes on it, lets hope whatever personal belongings were left in it are still in place.

You went from a tip gpx to a manual gx though, I know its only 17 bhp difference in PEAK hp but imo the mivec has more usable power at the top.

Not that a manual gx in pristine condition isn't worth a shot

Sorry to hear about your car. This is the 3rd car I've heard of being stolen in a week. Any more news on it? Have you found out what condition it's in?

I'd assume I can claim for it but will lose my no claims so there's not much point, even if God forbid it ends up a write-off. Will have to just bite the bullet and foot the bill myself.

Terrible news on the theft. What's the latest update ?

Also, did you happen to have an alarm and/or immobiliser that they also bypassed to pinch it ?

No news on it yet. I rang the towing yard and the guy was very friendly but couldn't be of much help. He was it was a locked in a shed and they weren't allowed touch it pending the Garda checking it over.

He did say he had photos though and that there was interior damage (ignition) and exterior damage, which was between the wing and the driver's door. No idea how bad it is though. I'm getting a bit pissed off with the wait and the lack of information to be honest. I need my car!

There was no alarm/immobiliser on it Kace. Had been thinking of getting one fitted but I haven't had the time or cash flow in recent months. I regret it now...

Not good, but it looks repairable with the right parts and some quality spraying. Wonder what the insurance assessor will think though ?

must have been awful to see it in the end but,, its probably just me but it doesnt seem as bad as i thought it would be. considering being in a chase , rammed in to garda car, etc, i was expecting to see a complete wreck. looks repairable tho. hopefully its not as bad as it looks.

Looks repairable alright. I expected it to look a lot worse. If it's only the panel that need to be replaced then it's not so bad. If your not gonna go through your insurance you could just get a panel from the breakers the same colour throw it on the car and then T-Cut the car (if it doesn't match well) if you wanna do it on the cheap. How would you go about find out if the car was rammed by the Garda car as oppose to your car ramming into the Garda car? It would be great if you could get them to pay for the damage.

I hope it all works out ok for you in the end!

MAKE sure as in 110% that it doesn't have engine / suspension damage if you decide to get the car back and put her on the roads.
it's depressing to see her like that :|

I know its not ideal but to be honest when you think about it its in great nick for what it went through. Definately repairable once its not suspension and chassis damage. And how exactly did he ram the cop car?? Sideways?? Something strange afoot there, looks more like the cops car rammed him.
