FTO Arrived!!!

Postby kevinod » Thu Aug 19, 2004 12:23 pm

Y'all,

finally collected my FTO yesterday, drove down to Cork, flying. Battery was knackered, electric mirrors needed a slight coaxing to get going, but otherwise all in working order!

Image

Bit of a scrape on left side behind door, not too bad though, and boot has holes drilled in it where I think another spoiler had been, and holes are just covered over with duct tape or something. Centre console is red, only red thing in the car so will have to do something with that, and front wheels different to back, but other than that one sweet motor...

Need to give it a thorough once over later on, but will post a few better pics, stick them in the gallery maybe CJ?

So, let the NOOB questions flow... :)

Nice one Kevin, about time! You should be able to use standard paint remover on the lower centre console to get that sorted. As regards the wheels, its a good excuse to get a nice set of rims and tyres!

If you can get a min of 5 pics, pass them onto me and I'll add them to the Gallary.

Kev,

Probably haven't been paying attention - but what model did you get - what transmission - any extras come with the car?

Looks quite clean - would recommend though that you change all the belts - if the plugs haven't been changed now would be a good time too (I'd recommend Denso Iridiums) - and as an option if it still has the standard filter then I'd put an ITG on - not expensive but makes a lovely difference to the sound of the car and some would say responsiveness as well.

BTW - If you don't like the red centre console I'm sure Steelroe could do you a good deal on a second hand console.

Good luck with your FTO!

Got me a GR manual, 95. Does seem pretty clean alright. I have no service history at all on it though, so I think it'll be getting new all kinds of things, a couple of busy weekends ahead! There's a HKG on it, green one. Think I'll try it out as it is for now and experiment in a while after.

Centre console, main issue is that its the only red thing in the entire car, so completely out of place. That and has a few bubbles and occasional little hole...Might give the paint stripper a go, but will prob be getting a few bits off Steelroe anyway so would save me a few braincells smelling the paint stripper!

Think I'll give the paint stripper thing a go, thanks!

About time is right, but well worth the wait, had a stupid grin on my face ever since! :D

Def good excuse for nice rims & tires, but expensive month - insurance, customs, VAT, VRT, road tax, whatever needs to be done for the NCT, so think i'll stick with the inexpensive option on wheels for now... another few months though and I could be in the market for some decent feet & boots for my FTO.

I'll pass ya on those pics later, cheers!
