Postby 998cc-keith » Wed Nov 11, 2009 11:18 pm

as i have started doin a few bits to vr4 i said i would start this

so here is the list off my plans

upgrade brakes i got brembro's from a evo 5 but after fitting wheels would not fit which means i prob will sell the kit i got and upgrade discs and pads it is running factory 296mm discs with twin pot calipers (FRONT) 284mm discs with single pot calipers (REAR)

tidy up engine bay i wanna tidy up engine pay get the engine cover etc trying to find a used one as they are 230+vat new and gonna crome the inlet manifold

moving battery to boot i wanna move battery to boot as there is not alot off room and to allow room for cold air feed

induction kit i have a blitz filter but i wanna make a cold air intake which is why i am moving battery to boot

remove orange from Indicator i wanna remove the orange bit from inside the headlight

roof rails i wanna remove roof rails

that is all i have in my head for min but am sure there will be more

Isn't that a fail on the NCT not having an orange indicator light?
I know I had to put back in orange side repeaters when I had clear ones in my last car, failed cause of it.

Good move on removing the orange light glass, it cleans up the front end no end (I did the same with my old VR-4).

The brakes are a real weak point on the VR-4, they're the same as the Evo III setup. I fitted Carbotech front pads (a favorite with the Evo crew)which seriouely improved stopping power. Only downside is noisy. A brembo swap is the way to go, make suer you get all the banjo clips, bolts and brake lines (in fact, I'd swap to SS hoses while you're at it).

You should get an engine cover handy enough, keep an eye on ebay.

The VR-4 engine bay runs very hot, I guarantee you will lose power if you fit an induction kit without adequate CAI. I stuck with the standard airbox and fitted a Ralliart panel filter, way better option IMO.

If you want cheap power, get a decat, exhaust and boost controller. You should easily see 300bhp with stage one mods @ 10 - 12 PSI.

Have you joined the VR-4 owners club as a full member? If not, do it now - their members section is an excellent technical resource for all things VR-4. Hook up with the Irish owners on the forum, they're a sound, well-informed bunch.

If you're going to stick with the standard calipers, fit a set of Carbotech pads, I wouldn't waste money on drilled/grooved and Mintex. Carbotechs are noisy and dusty but are a great upgrade.

A manual boost controller will do just fine, while an electronic one would provide better boost control across the entire rev range, you don't really need to go to the expense. Theres some excellent articles on this in the ClubVR4 members sections.

Re Palmerstown, it wasn't me (as Shaggy would say...)

you do know there's a little bit more to battery relocation than simply placin it there...or are ryou going by the most basic interpretation of the meaning of the sentence?

*sorry*
