Couldn't back down

As you can maybe tell i'm in a confrontational mood at the moment (see thread on here on 106 owners forum under cheeky..

I guess thats because of several things that have been happening in work.. i've been right every time by the way :D but the icing on the cake came from 2 numpty's in work slagging of my nearly 13 year old car my beloved FTO, (There cars both less than 3 years old) Yes i have done some updating lately (replaced my alloys quad exhaust led's all round and hids) and some of that i've done in work so it's been noticed by a few but these two numpty's decide to have a pop at me going on that i shouldn't waste my money and go buy a propper newer car. they were going on about there two cars and how great and quick and powerful they are so i had to reply back couldn't back down and say nothing especially with the cars they were driving and that led to a little race of sorts... and here is the story.

Before i start the cars they owned as you no doubt wana know were a mazda mx5 and a corsa vxr.

Now the mx5 is a 1.8 if i remember rightly (correct me if they are only a 1.6) and one of them was going on about his corsa being a 1.6 turbo, didn't realise they did that :smt017

Anyway sunday morning coming out of work at 6am went to a private track (honest govner) and it was a rolling start at 20mph at the bridge,
Now i'll be honest and say i think they made a slight mistake at the start which helped me i had my window down a shade listening to engine/exhaust sounds to see if they were in the right gear, i don't think they were i think they were both in second i was in first :D they were concentrating so hard i don't think they noticed anyway i figured the mx5 power to weight should give the edge but the corsa that was the dark horse not knowing a thing about the power wise ect. anyway the bridge came, and i was gone left them trailing and continued to do so till i hit my jap restrictor (never had deresticted any of my cars) at which stage the corsa yes the corsa i couldn't believe it either after a second or 2 passed me by followed closely by the mx5 and on up the road to which i slowed down and made my way off track and home, said nothing to them last night and they said nothing to me but tonight the corsa owner came up to me and said i thought i'd never catch you but i allways thought my top end would have you in the end.... should hve seen the look on his face when i explained the only reason he passed me was my restrictor............................. priceless. :D

Note. i do not condone my actions or thouse of others in this little escapade only do this on track with saftey gear and marshals and some sort of emergency service to hand!!!!!!!!!

Corsa VXR

They've basically got the exact same performance specs in terms of acceleration and top end as a delimited GPX. Except they're ugly as feck, likely packed full of body roll and will be worth nothing and driven by nobody when they're 13 years old.

Also as far as I know they debuted last year so unless it was an '07 (maybe an '06), he wasn't driving one.

Mazda MX-5 1.8

The girliest of the hairdressers cars, you should have just explosively laughed in his face before even thinking about speed. Even if this car had 600BHP it would still be hilarious to see a male in one. But it doesn't, it's got 124BHP, and it's slow.

The 2.0l model is a bit nippier but would still never catch and FTO.

I'm glad you stuck it to them. You can have a loan of my delimiter chip and have another go if you like. ;)

Don't underestimate an MX5 particularly the higher performance spec models - my wife had a 148BHP 1.8RS (see below pic) on Teins, RWD with an LSD - and that weighted close on 1000kgs and would have given the majority of FTOs a run for their money - had a better power to weight ratio than a manual GR.
I was never embarrased to be seen driving it - its a good little car.

I love the MX5s....great handling car!

The older gens were only 1.6 so werent very exciting in a straight line...BUT, and thats a big BUT, on windy roads ive never had the pleasure to drive a better balanced car.

Fan of the MX-5 too.

On the ever expanding list of what to get next (and nearly everything on it has been called a hairdresser's car at some stage).

They used not to have a 2 litre. They started with just a 1.6 I think, but they later added a 1.8 and now the new (post '05) version has a 2 litre option.

Lookit WH, you really should enbrace your inner metro self, theres no harm in liking the same things that girls like (flutes, make-up, shopping and West Coast Cooler not included in that statement I might add). Sure aren't we all driving around with a GHD (version 4 out now btw) in the glove box!

That's the main reason I bought the power inverter.

Admit it, West Coast Cooler is pretty tasty.........

Was at a gig in Whelan's a couple of weeks's ago, and when I've had a belly full of beer, and can't stomach any more - I happily move on to the bacardi breezers at the end of the night. Unbelievably cute girl behind the bar smiled and asked if I'd like a straw with it.

MORTIFICATION.

Bacardi's and MX-5's......can't go wrong
