Possession of My fto

Postby roykeane » Sat Oct 29, 2005 2:03 pm

 I took possession of my fto on Friday 21/10 and drove it to Kilkenny. On Saturday, I stopped a member of our esteemed police force and asked him what was the scenario while waiting on plates and driving without. My belief was that I had a period of grace on the issue and he said that this was the case. I had my ten year old with me. Fifteen minutes later, he stops me in a different part of Kilkenny and he proceeds to tell me that he is confiscating my fto on the basis that HE does not believe I have it insured, (which it was for at least 6 hours before leaving Dublin on Friday). As I am with a small insurer, who do not open 24/7, I had to wait until Monday to reclaim MY fto. But all you foreign nationals out there with yout LT and LV and PL plates, don't worry about anything. For the police to stop you, you must have insurance, paid VRT in Ireland before you get a plonker in a blue uniform to confiscate your car :smt013 Would appreciate feedback guys and gals

obviestly the tosser has a chip on his shoulder, or else hes jealous that you have a nicer car than he'll ever have :D
and as for foreign nationals, dont get me started, was working with a ukranian guy, who never took a driving test but holds a latvian drivers licence!!??
and the police never bother to check it up properly because its too much hassle and paperwork for them!!
how many others are driving around like this??

Oh dear god! Was this the same guy?
I've been pretty lucky this far - I haven't been stopped in my FTO yet - but when I was driving the Honda I was stopped a few times.
I hold a Danish (EU) license Gardas keep telling me to get it changed to an Irish license.. Not a chance!

1stly at the moment I can't get any points as the system isn't in place.
2ndly my current license is valid, without any retests until I reach the ripe age of 78yrs
3rdly I paid just short of 3000euro to get this license, there is no way in h3ll that I'll change it to the Irish one.

..My best experience with the Garda ever was when I was stopped driving my mates German Reg. Car.. The poor Garda didn't know what to do.

Danish Guy drving German car, in Ireland. Was mucho funny.

To be honest I don't know what the guys problem was. Have heard locally since that he believes that he is the all knowledgeable one of the local police force and regularly confiscates cars when he believes fit. Ah well not to worry. You only get grunts from a pig

You know, somebody actually complimented me on my driving today. They left a little note on the windscreen, it said 'Parking Fine'.
