Ticking sound

Postby Syn » Sun Nov 09, 2008 11:02 pm

Hey guys.i have a weird ticking sound from cold start up coming from drivers side of engine.it sounded like a lead sparking off the block so i took cover off but cant see anything and it sounds like its coming from lower down.im thinking it may be alt belt as it seems a bit loose but surely thatd squeal rather than tick? It goes wen it gets hot but also i think my exhaust has sounded a lot deeper recently.any help appreciated

Metal expansion?

I know it ticks when cooling, not sure if it does it in reverse.

Cleaned up the extra posts....

For that noise you're hearing, is it happening at idle? or only when driving?

I reckon your tappets need adjusting. Change the oil and see if it makes any difference

If you were loosing spark to ground then you would have a misfire and/or loss of power

I think i may be a bit down on power, and with the exhaust note being loads deeper now thats what made me think it might be coil. Ok what oil is the best to sort it out, 10/40 or 5/40 ect? Belts are all intact. Going out to tighten them when it stops raining :?
