Derestricting Import with Kmph speedo

Postby Muad_dib77 » Sun Sep 18, 2005 11:29 am

I've seen guides on how to derestrict cars that are converted from Kmph to mph - however mine is 100% Kmph.
I hit the restrictor this morning - and it's quite unpleasant.. How do I remove the restriction without spending an arm and a leg?

Hmm, someone was obviously travelling into work early this morning ;)

Funky Product used to sell a delimit only chip but the only product I can see on their site delimits and converts to MPH. There may be an altermnative available out there that I'm not familar with, someone may be able to clear up that point. If you're not of a nervous disposition, check out this thread on the FTOOC forum that describes the manual procedure.

HeHe.. Yeah roads are handy on sunday mornings! Nearly made special stripes in my undies when I spotted the Gardai at the side of the N2..Fortunately they'd just nicked some toss-pot in a primera..more LOLs for me...

Found this bit on the Uk site...

"Hmm, so its just a matter of disconnecting/cutting the VSS signal wire (pin 86 on Block B35) ECU side? Anyone tired it before I go out and get myself some spade connectors?! "

Did you get any feedback on this CJ??

No, got nothing back unfortunately. I'll keep an eye out for a delimit only chip...

Oh nice1...do you know if the chip serves other purposes that just derestricting the car? 200 Smackers sounds a tad steep - but good to know that they're out there.

I emailed Eurospec 2000 who supply Funky with the delimiter/convertor, they couldn't help with a delimiter only chip but recommended a company called Bobcam Agencies in Dun Laoghaire (2844603), apparently, they supply speedo convertors and the like.

bought a converter chip.. promplty lost the installation instructions.. It's now sitting on a shelf at home.. :-(

Prolly best I keep my road car under 200kmph anyways as it has recently been predicted independently by a number of friends that I will die in a serious road accident..

I agree lads. I do honest. I had some ignorant bufoon in a family saloon drive up my ar$e on the motorway last week even though he could see I could not pull over into left lane, or I could not accelerate as cars in front. He sat up my ar$e though. when finally a break came, I accelerated to 140 or 150ish just to put some space between us, and he kept it lit. It was only a 2.0 saloon so he took ages to catch back up but basically was a road bully. Anyway, well, I hit the limiter by accident and he passed me. It hurt my pride. :r This all happened on a track btw. in a dream....
you get my drift anyways. we have all wanted tp "put someone back in their box" before because they were being cnuts on the road.

most of the cars reach over 200 kmph .. hell my mk1 golf went allmoust 200.

my oppinion is that the 2nd gear boost it's more usefull then a 200 kmph + ride .

Hehe, my car came from the UK with an MPH conversion chip which also acts as a delimiter. Fortunately I'm not the type of person who would ever be hitting the limiter anyway so it's not too dangerous.

I'll probably be removing it soon because I'd rather have my speedo in KPH. If I ever bother, it'll be up for grabs.

does your odometer mow measure in miles too? presume it just changes the signal going to the clock? so the limit is now 180mph and the odometer goes up one unit every mile?

I must be getting old. I thought about getting a delimiter when I got the car first but now I can only think of about 4 stretches or road where I would feel safe going that fast and I've seen so many unmarked garda cars recently that I don't think I've got the guts.

thats a good point. Nothing more heart sinking then hitting the limiter just as you see blue lights behind you... bye bye license.

Yeah that's exactly it Colm. It's connected to the gearbox speed sensor.
