Wheel & Tyre size

Postby soc » Wed Aug 08, 2007 2:37 pm

Anyone know if a 255 tyre is too large for an 8" wide rim?

http://www.chris-longhurst.com/carbible ... e_pg2.html says it is - just wondering if anyone knows from experience?

I reckon it will fit ok but its far from ideal from a looks and handling perspective.
I have 245 section tyres and have 9.5 inch rims and though its a bit of a stretch they look well.

Why are you looking to fit 255's on an 8inch rim? Would have thought 245's would be more than adequate. You also have to think about lowering the profile as you widen the tyre and check for clearance on the arches and bottom of the strut.

I've 255's on the rear of the RX-7 on an 8.5" rim, they look just right IMO. I reckon 8's would be a little on the slim side - I run 8's on the front with a 235 section. 245's would probably fit OK but I'm inclined not to deviate too much from standard.

Sounds a lot to me, I've 235s on Evo 8 Enkeis which I believe are 8" wide, and they seem just right.

Thanks for the replies guys - I had the option to buy a set of 8x18's with 255 tyres. 255's will fit the rear no problem so I was thinking of fitting these with 235's on the front - I thought 8" might be too narrow alright - I may buy the rims with no tyres instead and fit 245's Rr & 225's Fr
