Using axel stands

On a few occasions, I've seen people using axel stands in the wrong position, its a basic enough task but if you use them incorrectly, you might end up with an axel stand sticking up through the drivers side footwell! See pics below, the stands should be placed under the cross member which runs down the lenght of the car:
