Mafia Wars on facebook

Postby kevinod » Fri Jul 24, 2009 8:52 pm

Just recently got into Mafia Wars on Facebook, anyone here play? Seems to be a bit of craic. Kind of a role playing game (not *that* kind of role playing now  ) Start off mugging people and build up to heists, taking on other mafias, etc.

Upside is you have limited energy in the game to do things so you can play for a few mins and come back to it later.

So far, I've resisted the urge to sign up to Facebox and the like, am I missing much?

I did for a long time but all the online socializing seems to be on there now, no-one emails anymore! (soooooo 90s! ) Got back in touch with some college buddies through it (boozing session tomorrow night) and no pressure to be any more present on it than you want to be, so all in all no complaints.

yea mafia wars is so addictive iv been playin 4 a while the trick is to have alot of your friends join your mafia and you'll be unstoppable.

I've got to say that this whole Facebook, Bebo and Twitter stuff leaves me cold. I would be loathe to publish the personal details and photos that many users of these sites do. The security breaches to date are too scary... the 'privacy' option???

I think the forum/bulletin board is a far superior system. Run and moderated properly (which this one is) it eliminates most of the inane crap which is posted on the above.

Just to be honest, I'm probably twice the age of most of the members on this forum. I've investigated all of the above, and personally I think they're more dangerous than useful and they wouldn't do anything for me. Having said that, that's only my opinion and is absolutely no criticism of anyone who uses these sites... whatever floats your boat :)

I'll probably be accused of being an ould technophobe, but I've been using the internet since the mid 80's and using and developing on the web since the mid 90's. It's the most exciting phenomenon I've been lucky to be involved in and to see it progress to this stage is something I would never have dreamed of seeing... but twitter

Did get into Mafia Wars a few months back but you soon release its completely pointless and it gets REALLY slow when you get up to the higher levels. They also introduced a spin off version called Cuba. The problem is some people just add random strangers to increase the size of their Mafia, so they have way more members and you dont stand a chance! Either way, always using Facebook myself. If people are going to add people its probably better to do it by using email addresses... Shall I start a list?

For the sake of spam attacks probably not a wise idea.

There is always the PM system.

Is it just me or is it boring full stop? I like a bit of action in my gameplay, MW is just a case of clicking on jobs and challenges by the looks of things....

Ya, guess it can move slowly while you're waiting for your energy to build up again, etc. strategy rather than action. Trick is to decide whether you want to build up energy with your skill points, or attack/defense etc depending on how you want to play it, doing jobs or attacking other mafias, invest in property to build up your bank balance so you can afford the equipment needed to do jobs in the later levels.
