Idle Time - 350z

Hey,

Anyone know what the idle rpm should be when stationed and warm?
Mine is barely over 0... I assume it should be 1000rpm ish!

With my limited knowledge i'm pretty sure this is adjustable, any ideas?

Russ - Zed when warm should be running at 600rpm.
Is the engine "hunting" (stuttering) at its current idle speed - can you hear any other noises - hissing, knocking etc?

How does the car handle having the aircon turned on at idle - what revs is it now showing?

Its likely to be that old FTO chestnut - the idle control valve (stepper motor) or else your throttle body (could be dirty).

Best thing to do is get it pluged into a diagnostic computer.

I'll take a picture of the idle when warm as its a little unclear as to what 600 rpm is... maybe i'm just being stupid!

Another thing i notice is a fair bit of feedback through the gear stick..I'm the type of driver that holds the gear stick a fair bit when tootling about.

Do you get a similar feedback on yours? Be nice to settle my racing mind!!

The gear box is fairly agricultural alright - thats fine for me coming from the West but I guess ye Dubs might chaff ye're skin holding onto the gearstick for any length of time.

I guess the gearbox is made for a higher power car than the FTO and it certainly doesn't have the fluency of the FTO manual box. If its getting excessive then changing the gearbox oil will help but its never going to have the easy action gear change of say a Honda Civic or similar but its unlikely theres anything wrong with your box - They are actually quite strong in the Zed.

Russ, you should consider getting a grounding kit, i did this, it makes the car idle so much smoother and actually reduces the vibration in the gear stick too, there are a few on fleabay, but i bought one from a guy on the owners club, spill was his name!!
