Tyreshop.ie

I had a look online to see if I could beat Camskills price for two tyres.
I found http://www.tyreshop.ie (€20 cheaper) but I haven't heard anything about them and the only number they list is a mobile.
Has anyone used them?

Hmmm, big differences there.
For what its worth I get 2 Potenzas RE50's fitted for €150 each in Cork nowadays, whereas before they were €175 each. Is it worth checking out a few places in Limerick to compare? Mightn't work out a whole pile dearer than what you are paying to get them delivered and then have to pay more to get them fitted, plus the pain of waiting for them to come by post. If nothing else it would be a good way to compare how much you are actually saving by ordering in.

There's no delivery charge, that's what's making them cheaper than camskill.
The only things putting me off is the mobile contact number and that they don't accept laser.

I just thought someone here might have used them before, if I can save €20 I might as well.

I wouldn't let the laser thing put me off. Some businesses (especially small business) don't use laser. I have been a therapist for over 3 years with my own business and I have only started taking laser/credit cards in November. And many small businesses operate without a landline. Personally I think it looks terrible, but I see it with most of my colleagues. It's extra bad when you think that a land line can cost as little as €5 per month these days, or people can buy that blueface phone for €120 and never have to pay again. There are lots of ways around some expenses, but a new tire company might not want to get stuck into a contract with a merchant account supplier, costing €70 upwards per month, excluding registration fees (€100 - €200).

It makes no sense to me that an online company would not have a facility to accept payment online, a visa machine can cost as little as 30 a month with laser payments costing about 17c to process. Do they accept paypal?

Rubbish. If accepting laser after you have applied to accept credit cards (depending on merchant account provider) you have to apply all over again, which can be a pain. This is why businesses should just get both at the same time with a provider who accepts both, rather than using one of those online merchant accounts who cannot, or will not accept laser cards. The excuse of fraud is total bull, they just went for a quick fix with an online provider.

I said I'd chance them so I ordered tyres on Tuesday.
They phoned today to say they only had one available and would I like Falkens instead...
Fingers crossed the refund will be problem free.

Next I thought I'd order from Eiretyres, only a fiver more than Camskill and I'd be keeping the business in Ireland.
When I checked their website the price had gone up another fiver making them €10 more expensive.

Bottom line, stick to what you know.
I've ordered from Camskill and don't expect any problems.

I'm not having much luck.
Camskill mailed me back within 5 minutes of placing the order with the following, and the option of cancelling.

Camskill wrote:Dear Customer
This tyre is being replaced by the Goodyear Asymmetric 2 , so these tyres are getting really hard to get hold of , ive tried all of our suppliers and none of them have any stock , Goodyear arent listing them on there stock lists anymore either and this size is not listed in the new Asymm 2 , only 235/45/17

Third time lucky perhaps?
I've placed an order with Eiretyres, if that doesn't work I'll just get something else.

That is bad luck. At least camskill looked to have made an extra effort for you and had a real go at getting them for you.

Ordinarily I'd suggest going with the 45 profile, but I know you don't have much to play with in that department, so fingers crossed for you.

So far so good with Eiretyres, they mailed me an invoice with a tracking number a while ago.

Still, it looks like I'll have to change my brand next time.
I've used Eagle F1s since I bought the car, GSD3s then Asymmetrics but if Goodyear aren't making the asymmetric 2s in my size...

Just to close out this thread, the tyres arrived this morning.
They arrived when they were supposed to through DPD, their online tracker can be slow to update but I can't complain.

Credit where it's due:
I bought a spare set of alloys a while back so I thought I'd put the new tyres on them and keep the old tyres on the wheels as spares.
I brought my wheels and tyres to Daly Tyres in Rathkeale (same crowd as Tyrestop).
They fitted my tyres, balanced the four wheels and laser aligned/tracked the car all for €50.
Their number is 069-64181 is interested.

Very good, nice to see them came through for you. And glad to see you got decent service from Daly tyres. Some places would charge that for the alignment alone.

That's a great price. Most places in Dublin are charging 15 per corner and some are 20 a corner from 16" up.
