Mongoose exhaust has arrived!

Got a Mongoose exhaust on ebay, from the Uk with Decat and fittings and postage, 329gbp all in.
Paid yesterday morning, and it's in the house already, the one night I'm stuck working late :cry: .....needless to say gave great feedback to the seller. My first buy on Ebay, not a bad start.
ITG filter, tappets, discs on the way. It's starting to fall into place now...

So, all I need to know now is how to fit the thing :shock:

Anyone know of any fitting guides for an exhaust out there?
I've not the most mechanical of minds, so maybe I should shell out a few quid to get it done properly? If so Anyone know a good place to get it done, or would like to volunteer a bit of a time for a few squid....

Ps if anyone wants the standard GR exhaust, bit of work needed on it tho, rust and can hear air coming out so must be cracked somewhere, you can have it when i have the mongoose fitted.....

Colm, if as you say, you're not a grease monkey, I'd be inclined to get it fitted professionally, Quick Fit or Advance Pitstop should be able to sort it out handy enough (I'd ring first, some places don't like fitting gear that you havn't bought from them in the first place). Whereabouts in Dublin are you based?

Yup CJ, certainly not a grease monkey. Ever since I bought the car tho I've learnt an awful lot,still have loads more to learn tho.

Will take your advice, prob a job too big for a novice, and it's something i want to get right after spending a good few quid on the part.

Based in Ranelagh, but no probs driving (I'll enjoy the drive back) so anywhere would do really. Good idea about ringing ahead too.

Does the Mongoose follow the same route as the standard exhaust? If it does it's prob just a case of bolt off bolt on, more or less, just watching that it doesn't touch anywhere so it doesn't rattle mad.

Only thing though its going to be so much easier if you can lift the car up so you can safely get under it and get at the exhaust. Maybe Kwik fit or Advance, etc. like CJ says would be the way to go?

Having said that, I've never had to do anything with exhausts *knock on wood*, so thats a pretty unqualified bit of info there... :wink:

The first time I had a Mongoose fitted, the thing fell off the back of the car, I had to go back so as a weld could be put in place, damn Kwik Fit! Unless you have access to a lift or a ramp, I'd leave it alone.

Does it need to be welded or is it a flange jobbie, i.e. does it bolt on as opposed to fit like a sleeve?

I have some axle stands, a trolly jack and a torque wrench if you want a hand fitting :)

Its sleeve and bracket job, as long as the bracket is tightened, it should be fine. In my case, a spot weld was put in place to secure the bracket to the exhaust, this shouldn't be necessary mind you. Other than that, its not difficult if you have the right equipment.

Mongoose exhaust is very easy to fit. Its a straight swap with the origional one, even the flanges will match with the cat if you don't have a by-pass. shouldn't take more than an hour or so to do. but if you don't have a pit or know someone who will let you use their ramps i'd let the pro's do it.
