Removing window tints

Postby soc » Fri Feb 25, 2005 9:53 am

Anyone know if this is a big job? Best left to the experts? Anyone know how much this might cost? Gonna ring carcraft (www.carcraft.ie) but just thought someone might have already been down this road before.....

I think it will depend on the job done in the first place - I have a very dark rear and side windows - but I imagine I'd have to have the windows removed to take the tint off. If the job is done right the windows would have been taken off the car for tinting.

...I would think so, its a messy job otherwise, especially if the rear screen has to be done.

yea, the rear screen would have to be done - I'd better call carcraft so to see what the damage would be.

My dad got his volvo done in Shades. I think they are somewhere outside dublin. The did a really good job on the back window. It is almost impossible to wipe it clean but they only used one sheet of tint and not one bubble.

Not sure of there contact details, but I think they used to have a €20 off voucher in buy and sell.

Cheers Carloine,

I'm probably gonna go with carcraft cause they're close to where I work - the guy I talked to sounded on the ball and they'll also fix up a scuff on the rear bumper at the same time - he said the hard and most important part is the glue removal to ensure that none is left behind otherwise you get dust and stuff sticking to the inside of the windows. He also said it's a job they don't like doing cause it can be time consuming and messy,

There at www.carcraft.ie if anyone is interested.

Shane,
I'm not familiar with the process of applying or removing window tints, so you'll excuse me if this sounds a bit silly. I'm thinking out loud here!
If the process of applying/removing the tints involves actually removing the windows. Perhaps you could team up with another golf owner who wants the tints and 'swap' windows. Maybe a wanted add, etc?

thought about that alright but carcraft said they'll remove the film from the windows - use a heat gun and it peels right off - then they just need to make sure they get all the glue off.
