Diagnostic Code Query

Postby steelroe » Tue Aug 19, 2008 9:05 am

We know that the diagnostic codes for the engine can be extracted using the earthing procedure here http://www.ftowa.com/html/workshop/workshopart07.html

But this only extract engine fault codes. So how do you extract the Automatic transmission codes. Does the above procedure also extract the trannny codes vis the "N" loght flashing.

Todays mission is to figure this one out. Or does anyone already know??

I should have read a bit more before I posted this.

Once you ground terminal 1 of the diagnostic connector, codes are flashed for the relevant ecu. i.e

Engine Codes are flashed via the engine management light.
ABS faults are flashed throught the ABS indicator.
TCL are felashed through the TCL indicator.
Automatic Tranny is flashed through the "N" light. (Note the gear lever has to be in the "P" position to flash codes from the AT ecu.

Could something be rigged so you could just flick a switch to start a diagnostic?
It'd be easier than having to unscrew panels and ground wires...

I have already done this with a very smal toggle switch. Much easier that way alright.

Theres closer grounding points than the brake pedal (unless you wanted to use the brake a switch in some some mad sort of way!).
