I got these puppies

Postby Muad_dib77 » Fri Sep 23, 2005 3:09 pm

These ones here... Thinking they'll look "a-iiiight" on my baby.

Image

All they need is some back breaking low profile "sho'es" and I can stick the standard alloys in the attic..

:-) Thanks :-)

Can't wait to see them on.

Am considering selling the 16s alright - but I'll wait untill I'm actually strapped for cashish.

Nice choice of rim. 8)

The back breaking bit won't be the ride quality though - it'll be the price of 18'' tyres

As I've learnt recently.... 200 a pop for Eagle F1's.......

Thats a good point that a lot of people don't consider; tyres for 18's are gonna cost quite a bit more than 16's/17's especially if you're after performance shoes.

I'm aware that the tyres will be a fair bit more expensive than the standard 15" - "Plastic-Fantastic-Cheapo" 65e Non-Grip tyres from kwak-fit.
But then again, if you look after a proper set of shoes, and don't leave marks all over the floor - you should get more miles from them - and hopefully it'll all be worth it in the end.

Is it my imagination or did I see a thread somewhere around here with links and info on tyre choice - and where to buy?? Can't find it now. :-(

Let me make it easy for you-

IMO the best tyres currently for 17 and 18 inch wheels on an FTO are:
Bridgestone S03 or RE050's
Goodyear F1 Eagle (GSD3)
Pirelli P Zero Nero

All good tyres, I'm running Eagle F1 GSD2's, great dry grip, crap wet grip, I believe this was sorted out on the GSD3's.

Check out http://www.eiretyres.net/ for some prices comparisons, heres some examples (based on 225/40/18s):

Goodyear Eagle F1 GSD3 - €164
Pirelli P Zero Nero - €190
Bridgestone Potenza RE 050 A - €197

Awesome. Thanks a million fellas.

Not as bad as I thought they'd be.
Would like something that has grip in wet - as this seems to be the predominant weather type is this particular region of ireland..(read: I'm p.ed off that it's always raining! ;-) )
The tires that are on the car is a strange mix of 3 different brands..I swear yer man changed the tires from when I first saw the car.. I have one Bridgestone one Falken and two Kwak-fit Conti somethings - they're fine as long as I dont try anything fancy...like going round a corner...or driving in the rain.. :-) ... Loads of wear left in them - front tires look new - but they're still crap.

Was trying to figure out what size of tire I'll actually need - I found this little gizmo which might be handy

I found Toyo Proxes to be excellent in the wet (and dry too)!!

I got them there Al. Terry there is a fellow FTO owner and a top fella - he'll look well after you!

There is a slight "but" in that you have to pay shipping from the UK -his prices are still good - and you'll get alloys that you can't pick up at the local motorway... :-)

Thanks for those other links shane - pretty neat!

Trying to figure out which width will go on the 18s .. Thinking I saw that they were 7.5" wide somewhere...that converts to 190mm - but that sounds like a bicycle tire to me... am I wrong?
****
Update..Just saw that all inovit 18s appear to be 8" wide..that's 200mm (203mm) - is that correct?

Cool. Thanks.
Was sure 40s would fit under there - but if it does for you guys - I'm sure it will for me too.
Think I spotted you in Droheda on Saturday btw Danny - going past Xtra Vision and McD.. Thinking you're the only one in Eire with an FTO in the nice red. :-)
